i have serious doubts, that you get alac 44.1/16 to multicast by adding a single airplay 1 device. how did you measure this? -

BTW if you use Airport Gen1 you need Firmware 7.6.1 to avoid stuttering. That time 7.6.1 was only available for Gen1 and not available for Gen 2. For Gen 2 use 7.6.9 -

sideremark: what makes me personally upset, that Apple is able to play lossless using the new Airpods 2 Pro (USB Charger) to Apple Vision Pro. They have the technology obviously ready. Well, when I dig into this, I decided to use Airport Express Gen2 for 44.1/16 lossless. But you need a certain firmware to my experience not the latest. Did post above here. By using old Firmware with Airport Gen 2 you force the higher quality. Simply because it can not do Airplay 2 but only Airplay 1. -

That is what myself is doing pretty much with Sonos: streaming from iOS or Mac OS to the Sonos speakers. As most services do not provide lossless or hires streams to Sonos Controller. Exceptions that I know for Sonos Controler: Tidal, Qobuz (best quality but special limitations), Amazon Ultra (best quality - in Europe, bad UI in Sonos imo). Hope this helps a bit. So Apple Music I am streaming via Airplay to Sonos. So, not using Sonos App. (I believe Amazon is bit perfect on Bluesound devices. Could not check) -

well, did test some month ago. Amazon Music streams all the time with highest sample rate. So, it is not bit perfect at all. Even if you put via the app on Mac the speaker in "exclusive" mode, it still streams upsampled everything to highest sample rate, as you DAC will show. Did not check, if Amazon did fix this meanwhile. Maybe Amazon ist waiting for something from Apple to fix in Mac OS? -

Well it is A1264, also here https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_AirPort (Take a look at Airport Express table) I am using it with FW 7.6.1. to avoid stuttering. -
To be honest, using Pi4 USB-C, where it get is power supply too from....this just makes a bad feeling. anyway for little money and if you are accepting some stuff, seems to be a nice solution. Up board is for sure much more comfortable. But looking into that Filets(?) too. @The Computer AudiophileJussi is looking for someone to do a test with those. Maybe you can find time? Are you on version 3 now? @miska, you may have noticed how nuts, i am to this interfaces....really would love to do it all with a ethernet cable. opticial if required.

Well, thanks to a lot of nice folks and Jussi ofcourse, it seems that this solution here is working with a PI4 Model B now and automatic samplerate switching. However it is still experimental and I have to do a longer listening and maybe verfication by someone else. But kuhl 😁 Have a nice weekend and enjoy the music! https://community.roonlabs.com/t/using-any-audio-source-with-hqplayer-spotify-amazon-apple-music-youtube-music-deezer-soundcloud/155479/543?u=michael_pauliks

Thank you so much again!
-
If it could work with a Pi only, would prefer that please. And I guess a lot of other folks too....
-
Any updates on this please for automatic sample rate switching using USB Class 2 input to HQP? Especially via the Pi 4?

That other thread from just a month ago confirms your measurements.
