  1. Thing is the BX has no attenuator and I would also like to connect headphones. Looks a faff on the RX as you have to unplug the rca leads to the preamp to connect the headphone adaptor. In the RXV user manual it says this - Headphones (32 Ohms and up) can be directly connected to the 3.5mm jack socket I think this is a mistake. Cannot see a socket. I've just written to John to ask about this. The RXV wouldn't be ideal anyway. Why on earth do they make these stand up designs?
  2. Any comments on the BX or RX? I've been sitting on the wall a long time. I want to be absolutely sure these dacs haven't gone out of fashion like my MOS16. Are people still using them and buying them? I need a flat horizontal, not upright box. Is it only possible to have a headphone socket on the upright model? Can I power a FW F4 with a BX or RX? Do they have enough voltage? I'm also building a 'Sissy SiT'. Anyone used one with the EC Designs dacs?
  3. Looks like you are in the Netherlands. You could easiy return the SX if it wasn't up to your expectations.
  4. PowerDAC-RXV and PowerDAC-RX I'm struggling to find any differences looking at the website. The IR remote is expensive. Does anyone know the IR code used?
  5. Good to hear EC Designs are now selling at a UK dealer. I've just had a look at their website. Close to pulling the trigger on the RX which I think is worth the extra ££ for the volume control - so useful for headphones where a bit perfect signal is needed so cannot be controlled on - in my case - the MacBook
  6. Thanks for posting your impressions. I'm eager to hear more reports from other buyers. My purchase will have to wait a while. All spent out.
  7. I searched on YT. Do you have a link please?
  8. Has anyone had a hint of when the new dacs will be available to buy? I wonder if there will be much of a price rise. I did leave my email on their website as someone interested.
  9. I have emailed EC Designs to ask the question.
  10. I know that EC Designs Dacs need a bit perfect stream. I'm considering buying headphones that benefit from EQ. Will this treatment result in the stream not being bit-perfect?
  11. This is what I have been told. The new PowerDAC-RX and also the PowerDAC-SX will have normal housing. The new PowerDAC-RXV is similar to old PowerDAC-R but no heatsink, just less thick and has integrated power supply. The PowerDAC-RX(V) will have new DAC board with improved zero crossing logic (X) and has better sound quality than current PowerDAC-B and PowerDAC-R. We made the PowerDAC-B without volume control and standard housing to somewhat lower price. We now decided to make our own housing again for PowerDAC SX and PowerDAC RX(V). We will no longer use the UK supplied housing for PowerDAC-B, and will probably no longer offer PowerDAC-B.
  12. Lastest from John Brown Quote today Please note that PowerDAC-R and PowerDAC-S will not be available for sale in the next few weeks. We upgraded the PowerDAC-R and PowerDAC-S. The PowerDAC-R will become PowerDAC-RXV and will have build-in power supply and has thinner housing design. The PowerDAC-S will become PowerDAC-SX, will have 10-20 Watt power output and a flat housing design.
  13. May be interested. Which model is it?

      Hi Michael,

It's the Power DAC R. But things went fast and I already have a deal with Jjazz, I'm waiting on the payment. If the deal is canceled I'll make sure I'll let you know.

      Grtz,

  14. On further reading only the Powerdac R can be used with an IR remote - pity. Just remembered the old RC wasn't for controlling volume anyway.
  15. Can anyone tell me if I can use the remote control I bought with my MOS16 to control a PowerDac? Also, I realise that previously recommended toslink cables won't work with my MacBook as it needs a mini tos plug. Anyone used a Power Dac straight off a MacBook at full 24/192 - if so any cable recommendations please?
