TEAC UD-701N - Undiscovered gem or farce
tdx replied to celestial_sound's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
As I said I dont have it anymore I have moved to another DAC tier but when I had it it was used as both a DAC and a streamer. Honestly that would be the main reason to buy it, as a DAC only there are other options in the same price bracket that could be better. But as a DAC/streamer/headphone out/preamp there is very little competition at that price... -
TEAC UD-701N - Undiscovered gem or farce
tdx replied to celestial_sound's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Hi welcome to the forum! I can't speak to the differences with the UD701N as I never had that unit. The N-05XD is really good though, I have moved on since I've had it to MSB but I think as an all in one it's hard to beat for the price, especially on the used market. -
Future proof DAC: T+A 3100 or MSB DAC?
tdx replied to tdx's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Thanks! Looking forward to trying it, and also testing all the output modules the seller included with it. I've heard the Pro USB/ISL is best but I want to try to Network renderer V2 also and see which I prefer. -

As i wrote earlier I went with the MSB but I'm sure I would have been equally satisfied with the SDV. -

Future proof DAC: T+A 3100 or MSB DAC?
tdx replied to tdx's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Thanks for the reply. I had already replaced the Holo May with the Esoteric N-05XD which sounded better but has some usability quirks in my setup that basically meant I had to forego the use of the streamer (complicated story). In any case I was looking both for a sonic upgrade, not sidegrade, and also for a DAC that i can hopefully keep a very long time. Long story short, I ended up buying the MSB Premier yesterday, fully loaded with all four output modules so I can try each one and decide which I prefer. I strongly considered the T+A since it had things the MSB didn't (built in NAA, 1024DSD etc) but in the end the price I got the Premier for was too good to pass up, and I feel it might be easier to resell if for any reason I decide to do so (highly doubt it but still). Finally, the fully modular approach of the MSB and good record of the company standing by their products for years helped me make the final choice. Don't get me wrong I'm sure the SDV 3100 would have been amazing, but its feature set is fixed in time and a few years down the line when better/different DAC technologies will be available it wont be able to upgrade to them. Whereas the Premier hopefully can. I'll update this post once I receive the MSB and test it in my system... -
Hi all, I'm moving on from my previous DACs (Holo May, Esoteric N-05XD) and this time I'd like to get a DAC that I can keep for a long time. I know that the idea of a future proof DAC is an oxymoron since tech moves so quickly, but the two that I'm considering the most right now are either the T+A SDV 3100 or the MSB Premier. These seem the most future proof right now, here are what I think are pros/cons for each: - SDV 3100 pros: the most advanced DAC for input formats (DSD1024 through both USB and Ethernet) and built to handle just about anything that exists on the market right now. - SDV 3100 cons: while very advanced, the hardware cannot be upgraded at all in the future. - MSB Premier pros: fully modular and upgradable to better modules in the future. - MSB Premier cons: the upgradability is always a a gamble, who knows if they will offer upgraded modules or not. Even now one has to buy a pricey external box (the Digital Director) in order to make the DAC be up to date. I don't think I missed anything, but if anyone here has any advice about which DAC to choose, or if anyone has had experience with either of those DACs, I would really appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

View Classified FS Mutec REF10 SE120 Master Clock & BNC cables I am putting up for sale my Mutec REF10 SE120 master clock with 8 independently configurable clock outputs. This unit was converted to the SE120 model from Mutec themselves and, according to the CEO, they hand-picked the lowest noise oscillator possible (-123db @10z with 13.42fs jitter 1-100). This is actually a better measurement than even the retail REF10 SE120. It achieves a signal that is lower than even the best Cybershaft etc clocks at a much lower cost. Also including the following BNC cables to use with it and all your peripherals: Moon Audio Black Dragon BNC cable with RCA adapters Soul Note RCC-1 Japanese imported 50 ohms BNC cable All items are in excellent condition and will come in their original boxes when available. Ground shipped with full insurance to Cont US. PP F&F or wire transfer prefered. Local sale in NYC would offer discount. Thanks. I am looking specifically for DACs (any brand) that can take an Ethernet based DSD1024 signal. -
T+A new flagship streaming dsd1024 dac
tdx replied to louisxiawei's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Reviving this thread, I was wondering if more than 4 years after the announcement of the HV series, there are any other newer/more affordable DACs that can take an NAA DSD1024 or at least DSD512 signal over Ethernet? Or is the HV line still the only and expensive game in town? Thanks -
TEAC UD-701N - Undiscovered gem or farce
tdx replied to celestial_sound's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Understood that makes sense. I'll see if i can score a used Red and give it a try. As for the connection, I would love to use balanced XLR but unfortunately my amp (Riviera AIC-10) is SE only and thus only takes RCA. But I've invested in a really good pair of RCA cables (Audience AU24 SX) which helps sound wise. Thanks -
TEAC UD-701N - Undiscovered gem or farce
tdx replied to celestial_sound's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Got it thanks. Curious, is there a sonic benefit to using the Holo Red between your computer and the DAC? Or is it just for convenience? Right now I'm running HQP straight from my PC to the DAC with a good quality USB cable, but if you think the Holo can make my chain better I can get it... Thanks again. -

Thanks so much, I really appreciate. Having tested the TEAC unit which I think shares a lot of the same components do you think the USB input is ok vs the ethernet input? Or do you think the streamer input is better?
