I've been looking at the Merging Hapi and see various posts discussing DSP measurements via USB microphone. In past, I had nothing but trouble taking measurements with my USB microphone. Inconsistent timings and other undesirable stuff always seemed to happen, making it very difficult for me to ever get a good measurment. Because of this, I ended up with a Motu mk-5 for measurements and I'd be hesitant to go back to USB mic. The Merging ADA8(p) cards would integrate the entire process with the HAPI, but it's kind of overkill for my needs with it's 8 mic inputs, so I'm hesitant to go this route, but..... Anyway, very curious to hear experiences when using the Hapi for measurements and the hardware configurations being used. Thanks

Yes, as long as I decode the entire mkv, instead of individual mkas, it decodes properly. I also managed to decode the entire Gulda disc by splitting into the 12 MKA tracks and then joining tracks into the following groups 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12. Each of these joined groups decode, and I was then able to get all 12 chapters decoded to wav, which is what I really wanted. Not bad. Thanks again for all the help. Until I saw your posts, I had no idea that decoding ATMOS to wav files was a possiblity. Your guides were fantastic, and saved me countless hours. Great work!

Thanks for taking a look, and this does look same as my results. I believe all of the failed mkv's will decode if the TrueHD Presentation is set to 8 with output channel layout set to 5.1.2, but then the decoded files are missing the top channels for some reason. I suspect top channels are missing because the information is excluded when True HD presentation is 8, but this is all very new to me and I need a better understanding. BTW - I'm running into similar issues with the very next disc I selected to decode - Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark.

I'm converting to 5.1.2 wav. True HD Presenation of 16. Album is : Friedrich Gulda/Claudio Abbado/Wiener Philharmoniker - Mozart: Piano Concertos Nos. 20, 21, 25 & 27[2 CD/Blu-ray] - Amazon.com Music I've tried to decode entire bluray as both one large mlp, and also using individual mka files. The mlp decodes approximately 25% of the way and then just closes up without error. Splitting into mka's there is one mka for each track that displays on the bluray menu for a total of 12 mkas. MKA 1 - 3 is concerto 20. 4 - 6 is21, 7 - 9 is 25, 10 - 12 is 27. For each group of MKAs, the first and last mka for each concerto decodes properly, with the exception of concerto 20 for which only MKA 1 decodes and both 2 and 3 error out. The MKAs that will not decode with presentation of 16 will decode with presentation of 8, but the two top front channels are empty. If I join mka 1 - 3, the joined mka will decode and this decoded wav plays properly. Same goes for mka 4-6. When I join MKA 1 - 6, the decoding fails at about the half way point, so it seems as though some data between concertos also causes the decoding to fail. First disk I tried with these same setting, "The Pineapple Thief - It Leads to This" went perfectly with same settings, so I'm 1 for 2. Not end of the world for me as I can play back over my AVR, and I"m trying to compare AL to AVR DSP, and I also like the idea of these decoded wav files. Not exactly apples to apples since the avr configuration is different, but still an interesting exercise. I have about a dozen more to try :)

Managed to get the Dolby Reference Player, and tried it out. Thanks to your instructions found it to be fairly straight forward to extract atmos in both wav and mlp, but there have been a few hiccups with decoding. MMH/DRP atmos decoding seems to be very hit or miss as I'm finding that some files decode just fine and some error out with a DRP error. Changing settings for TrueHD channel presentation, or output channel layout will sometimes get the process to complete, but then the output is usually in wrong channel configuration for my setup. Can someone explain, or point me to explanation of TrueHD chanel Presentation ? I don't quite get it, but I do know that when I change it from 16 to 8 the 2 height channels in the decoded 8 channel wav are empty. I change it to 8 because sometimes when the decoding fails with presentation set to 16, the same file will decode with presentation set to 8. .

Playback is via Jriver bistreaming to my AVR, so not using Jriver's audio engine. Files are ripped via MakeMKV and I've tried converting to MKV, MKA and using the bdmv. Only way JRiver bitstreams Atmos gapless is when file is one large blob. I thought I'd get around this by using the entire file in combination with CUE file, but Jriver then uses the CUE data for each track/chapter, and puts silence between tracks. I had been reading your journey of getting the ATmos working with the reference player, so I had a feeling that's what you were doing for gapless :) Yet, I was hoping .... Thanks for the reply

These posts are a bit old so hopefully thread can be revived, or possibly there is more current thread I've missed? I've been trying to get gapless working in JRiver. It "works" but only by playing entire album start to finish as one "unit". Extracted tracks, or albums using cue sheets, will not play gapless. Can you provide a couple more details, such as what format (MKV, MKA, etc. ) and player are you using? Thanks

For measurement accuracy, the review mentions moving all furniture out of the microphone's path. I thought the more accurate measurement is to measure the room as it is during a listening session. So what is Dirac recommendation on this?

Do we have to recreate filters or retake measurements for these updates?

Regarding the processor's gain control.... how exactly is that control working to reduce or increase volume (to help with potential clipping?). Are there any guidelines for how much reduction is too much? I keep mine around -13db because some of my albums are mixed at very high levels.
