What if anything would be objectively above the May ?
-
I had a similar experience with a Holo May. I switched from DSD256 to 1.5MHz PCM and thought for a bit I liked it better. I then went back to DSD and quickly realized what I was missing. I think it’s also somewhat dependent on the type of music. Rock / dance / electronic can sometimes sound better with PCM - like listening to good music through good speakers. With DSD however it’s like being in the room with the musicians if the recording / music allows for this. I can’t get quite the same effect with PCM. I would suggest trying poly-sinc-gauss versus xla for a bit more of a balance between the two.

How to turn a Innuos device in to a 1536kHz capable embedded HQPlayer
sworksone replied to dkdali's topic in Music Servers
Thanks. I did eventually see on another thread where they mount the filesystem so adding it here for anyone else. On my Zenith Mk3 (so likely the same on all other Innuos devices) the Library path to scan is: /run/media/sda4 -
Is this fixable in future releases?
-
I have to agree with this and (somewhat unusually) disagree with @dericchan1. HQPlayer has been a revelation for me in bringing the sound quality of my system to a previously unachievable level and it just keeps getting better with almost every update. However, although I’m getting more and more used to Client, it’s not that straightforward and the UI is lacking compared to most other music player software on the market. This is not intended to be critical as I’d prefer to have that inconvenience if providing this would take focus away from ongoing HQPlayer advances or a more CPU demanding option would negatively change sq, but otherwise I dream to have the UI of Roon (or Qobuz, or Tidal, or Innuos Sense, or BluOS, etc.) along with the sound quality of HQPlayer through Client. I’m more than happy to pay for Roon or other and HQPlayer to get the best of both worlds. Maybe an integration of HQPlayer through the Qobuz app is an option?

A couple of stumbling blocks already. Is it not possible to use Jplay with HQPlayer Desktop - only Embedded? Also can’t access local library only Tidal / Qobuz? The latter isn’t a deal breaker for me however the first is an issue with my current set-up. @Miska Any plans to add the ability to create and edit combined local library and Qobuz playlists within Client? I’ve been using Client more and more lately for the amazing sound quality (and thank you so much for the iOS app) and now that I’m getting used to it, this is the only thing I feel I’m really missing. There are a few other items that would be a nice to have (song lyrics / ability to search Qobuz and local library simultaneously / etc) but I keep going back to Roon primarily due to the lack of playlist creation / editing in Client. Or please tell me I’m wrong?

Thanks @dericchan1 and @fgribas - will try Jplay with HQPlayer and report back.
-
Same experience here and not something I understand as I thought Roon was simply directing the signal to HQPlayer in this configuration, but the sound quality difference is not subtle.

Interesting - I haven’t had any issues with dropouts or noticed any deterioration in sound quality.

How to turn a Innuos device in to a 1536kHz capable embedded HQPlayer
sworksone replied to dkdali's topic in Music Servers
Has anyone been able to successfully access music stored on an Innuos when running HQPlayer embedded on it? I’ve mostly been using the Zenith as an NAA but tried embedded again this weekend for comparison and I still can’t figure out how to add music stored on it to the HQPlayer library. I used the /run/media pull down option to scan but after a long time the scan returned nothing. Thanks for any assistance on this. -
From a pure playing music perspective - nothing. The user experience is however very “basic” in comparison especially to Roon. This is understandable as the focus of the two is very different - one on the highest possible sound quality (correct?) and one on the human machine interface. It’s probably asking for too much to have it all and people have different perspectives, but for me personally if I could get the HQPlayer through Client sound quality with 80-90% of the Roon user experience (example Innuos Sense) I’d be a very happy camper!

Thanks for this. Will try adding albums within the Qobuz app to start. I did just realize I can also search within the Album View tab of client in the top right. I mistakenly thought this was just a pulldown menu. Makes it much easier to find albums compared to the search output in Transport View.

The recent posts on Qobuz searches in HQP Client led me to give this combo another try today. I had tried Qobuz and Client previously when this first quietly became an option and found it very “awkward” - sorry I don’t have another way to describe it. My current setup is HQPlayer and Roon both on a MacBook run through an Innuos Zenith Mk3 as NAA (256DSD / ASDM7EC-super / poly sinc gauss xla). I thought I had the best of both worlds with the Roon HMI combined with HQP sound quality but I realized today in trying Client/Qobuz again that I’ve been missing out on a significant improvement in sound quality. I’m blown away by how much more transparent and holographic the sound is yet with more body at the same time. The difference is not subtle which doesn’t make any sense to me. So now a couple of questions. Am I correct that there’s no way to search Qobuz in Client outside of in the Transport View tab? There also isn’t a way to search and play Qobuz remotely within client from an iPad? If only I could maintain this sound quality with the user experience and friendliness of Roon or the Innuos Sense app I’d be close to audio nirvana.

I’m just recalling that I also did an auto discovery for HQPlayer in HQPDcontrol. I think this is the first time this worked for me as I previously had to manually enter the IP address. Worth a try to see if this may fix your issue.

I had a first time situation yesterday of losing control of HQPlayer from HQPD control (MacBook and iPad both latest iOS updates). I disabled and reenabled network control in HQPlayer and everything has been fine since.
