How to turn a Innuos device in to a 1536kHz capable embedded HQPlayer
dkdali replied to dkdali's topic in Music Servers
The HQP on a USB disk solution is a complete OS and you can only run 1 OS at a time. So all functions in the Innuos OS cant be used while running HQP and visa versa. So if you want to run HQP on your Innuos you have to run Roon core from a separate machine. I use a Intel NUC with Roon ROCK which is a Linux installation for the NUC with Roon core. Alternatively you can contact Innuos to have them install HQP as part of their OS but I still don’t think you can run both Roon core and HQP at the same time. -

The LED color is controlled bu the Innuos OS so it never gets the blue color with HQP 😉 Looks good - just remember the May works best with 20bit -

The screen looks fine. Can you find the dac and configure it (via the web interface)? If not - are you sure you are using the full HQP image? The NAA image can’t boot if you have 2 USB interfaces (not sure if the Zen has 2!?). How do you plan on playing music on it? Direct or via some interface like Roon? -
Have you tried to experiment with the various filters i HQP? 1.5 MHz can sound very different depending on the filter so if it is too bright/lean on your system I would trie experimenting with that. I would be surprised if you couldn’t find a filter that would improve your weak areas. I mainly use 2 different filters (sorry can remember which ones and i am not home to check my list😉) - 1 for jazz/r&b and 1 for rock/pop. I find that changing a filter can often make a bigger change than changing a HW component in my system! On top of that i EQ in Roon and have several profiles depending on the quality of the recording. I mainly use that to lower the treble on bad recordings. And by the way make sure you have the optimal other HQP settings - 20bit, volume etc

Disconnected the dac and use the usb for mouse/keyboard. The Zenith has 2 USB connections for separate mouse/keyboard connection but I think the Zen only has 1 so you might need a 2 in 1 connector. Logitech sets come that way. -

Its where the OS sits so I always assumes yes.. -
I would run the Zenith as a NAA - best of both worlds! Just answered your mail (sorry for the late reply)

I enjoyed the Zenith mk3 but was looking for an upgrade down the HQP route as my May DAC loves high sample rate and HQP has some of the best filters on the market. After some digging and some trial and error I got the Zenith to run full as a 1536kHz capable embedded HQPlayer! Not just as a NAA but a fully fledged server that I stream too directly from my ROON server, One of the best upgrades to my system I have ever made and highly recommended!

I have a Zenith and it maxes out at 768kHz in Roon. Not sure why Innuos only writes 384kHz - maybe that is the limit in their own SW But it is a Intel based motherboard so HQP can run 1536kHz on it.
-
I use it as a normal Roon endpoint. You can even see the filters and samplerate HQP is using directly in Roon

Innuos’s servers can run HQPlayer OS and upsample to 1536kHz. No need for external PC and it sounds amazing 😎👍

I have found a good offer for a used KGSSHV Carbon that I have been looking for (or a Blue Hawaii) to pair with my STAX SR-009. It is build by Felitsa Audio and as far as I can find online it is a guy from Vietnam selling his amps via ebay. Any of you know the brand or have experience with any of the amps?

I am using Roon as source and Roon finds the HQP Zenith as soon as you add it to Roon. i unfortunatly cant help you with the HQPlayer build in player as i have never tried it. I suggest you post your questions in the HQPlayer tread. -

Yes this solution is mainly for up-sampling and filtering in the same format as the source. I am using the Holo Audio KTE May DAC and it shines at 1536kHz and the Innuos is more than capable of delivering that. It is also capable of up-sampling DSD64/126 to DSD256 in all filters but EC. Here are my settings:
