sMS200 NAA DSD512

Recommended Posts

@MayfromSOtM hi May

I have just “discovered” a strange behavior of sMS200 playing DSD512 from HQPlayer/NAA

As you probably know HQPlayer let us choose if upsampling within the sample rate “family” (“Auto rate family” and “48k DSD”) or not.

This means that I can upsample by integer multiple or not, for example:

  1. PCM 24/48 to DSD512 (48000x512=24576000) … it is a integer multiple
  2. PCM 24/48 to DSD512 (44100x512=22579200) … it isn’t a integer multiple

it happens that:

  • in the case 1) playing stops after 30’/40’ … it seems sMS200/NAA crashes
  • in the case 2) everything works fine as it should

I’m wondering if this is an “expected” behavior (the sMS200 limit is DSD512/22579000)  or it’s a sort of bug.

For your information I’m using a rpi4 running RoPieee/NAA (now on 4.6.0 version) too and it works fine in both cases using the same dac.

thank you for your attention

Stefano

Hi Stefano, thanks for the report, but I have some difficulty to understand about this part,

is "in the case 1)" about the interger multiple and is "in the case 2)" about not the interger multiple?

And  the sMS-200 doesn't limit DSD512/22579000.

Thanks, please confirm about it.

Best regards, May

… in other words …

  • it stops playing DSD512x48 (an original 24/48 file upsampled to DSD512x48=24576000kbps)
  • it works playing DSD512x44.1 (an original 16/44.1 file upsampled to DSD512x44.1=22579000kbps)

I hope this is more understandable

thank you

Stefano

Hi Stefano, found out the issue at our end as well, please try using the 5.1.20 kernel till we would solve the situation, once solvedd, the kernel version no. will be updated. This is the image file with the latest firmware version and the kernel version no.5.1.2,  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1SaHm3O5t6Kvx_t3_NF11k6uQLWjdZH5i

or reverting to the kernel version no. is possible, via http://<your eunhasu ip address>/exed.php?cmd=sudo dnf -y install kernel-5.10.20-210.fc32 kernel-core-5.10.20-210.fc32 kernel-modules-5.10.20-210.fc32 kernel-tools-5.10.20-210.fc32 kernel-headers-5.10.20-210.fc32 --disablerepo=* --enablerepo=eunhasu,eunhasu-updates --refresh

but takes about 20 mins for it, so you should wait about 20 mins and reboot the device after that. Thank you.

Many thanks for sharing the result, it seems it's about the setting issues that we didn't use before, all sorted out :)

Have a great day!

@MayfromSOtM hello May,

I’m using HQPlayer embedded therefore it appears a bit different, anyway I confirm it works fine upsampling to DSD512x48 (24576000) both 44.1 based and 48 based files as you can see in these screenshots :

playing 48 based files

.

and playing 44.1 based files

the newer version update of HQplayer NAA will be possible only through the Fedora version upgrade on Eunhasu, which is planned in this summer. Until then, the HQplayer NAA version will remain at 4.5 on sMS-200/sMS-200ultra.

Thanks so much May!

Looking forward to try it
