I flashed an SD card and successfully booted the unit with the new card. Everything works and I have been able to try different CPU clock settings. However, no matter what I do I get what sounds like distortion or static for a minute or so every time the music I'm playing changes bitrate, say from 44.1KHz 16bit to 96KHz 24 bit. If I stay with one or the other, after initial static on boot-up I don't get it again, but as soon as I select a different album with a different bitrate, it happens again. I have to stop playing, the static continues for 20 seconds or so then stops and I get normal playback. I've played around with CPU clock settings and profiles, but it's still happening.

I'm going to try the previous firmware, V0.5.51 to see if it's any better.

For what it's worth, I'm playing through a Schiit Audio Bifrost 2/64 DAC.

Any ideas?

A new Eunhasu Alpha version no. 0.5.61 is now available, it's not officially released yet since many things have been modified as like below, we renamed 'CPU Latency tune' to 'System tune' and added about 5 tuning profiles. We would need your support to test them out and give us some feedback which profile is okay and what would be the meaningless profiles, after your feedback, we would need to remove unnecessary profiles and release the firmware officially.

Version : V0.5.61
  - Date : 04-30-2024
  - Update system config page.
  - No need to reboot after changing the system tune settings.
  - Changed the setting item name from 'CPU Latency tune' to 'System tune'.
  - Added the system tune profiles newly.
  - hpc-compute
  - latency-performance(original CPU Latency tune profile)

SOtM smS-200 unveiled at Munich Hi-Endhttps://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/27617-sotm-sms-200-unveiled-at-munich-hi-end/According to the SOtM website the new sMS-200 will be unveiled in May at the Munich High End.

Hardware and software specification published on the website are as follows:

"sMS-200 is a new generation of mini network player with built in ‘Media Player Board’ developed by our own technology.

The significance of sMS-200 comes from the dedicated ARM processor board developed for only audio purpose, it is definitely not the similar kind of those ready-made processor boards in the market offered with dazzling low price but not that much of high sound quality, of which the most of audio product manufacturers experience deterioration of sound and are forced to use unnecessary features from the ready-made boards, but now it’s gone with the sMS-200.

SOtM developed the product just for audio sound performance, getting rid of all unnecessary features concentrating on the high quality sound tone at a reasonable price.

sMS-200 is particularly designed to provide the best sound quality based on our own unique technologies accumulated to date since those days of media players, and it is probably be the only one capable product exceeding the current network players on the market in terms of functionalities.

As to the player software, ROON, MPD, DLNA, SqueezeLite and others are available. And the music files from an external USB storage device, network shared folders and streaming services are also available. As well, the more functions can be easily added via software upgrade.

Plus, the simple and nice looking Web GUI allows users to choose the desired audio function, setup and control playing music file through Apps on users’ smart devices."

Hardware Specification

Dual core ARM processor

2G DDR3 RAM

microSD slot for OS

Audio grade USB port x 1

USB port x 2 for standard USB device

GigaBit Ethernet port x 1

Optional WiFi module

Power input : 9V/2A max

Software Specification

RoonReady

Logitech Media Server

Squeezelite

MPD & DLNA audio Renderer

Shairport

HQplayer NAA

and others

Dimension : 105 x 53 x 150(mm)

Weight : 1kg >

Looks like a competitor for the new Sonore MicroRendu! They should have the same software, same functionalities, similar dedicated board, similar audio grade USB port.

sMS-200 is certainly bigger, has 2 more USB ports for attaching external hard-drives and don't know about the Ethernet port.

Price is not announced yet, but I expect it to be in the 600-800 $ range.

Anyone with more skills than me would like to comment on this?

Simone

SOtM 200 ultra neo and DSD1024-PCM1536https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69811-sotm-200-ultra-neo-and-dsd1024-pcm1536/ Hello May,

I would like to ask you if it is possible that the SOtM 200 ultra neo can reach DSD1024 and PCM1536 resolution with a firmware update?
Do you think it can be done?

I ask you because I'm about to buy the Holo Cyan 2 which goes upsampling with HQPlayer to DSD1024 and PCM1536

Thanks so much in advance

Have a nice day

LMS/Squeezlite doesn't Activate - just spinshttps://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69681-lmssqueezlite-doesnt-activate-just-spins/ For the last few weeks I've wanted to try Squeezelite with my new DAC. But when I try to load it in Eunhasu the loading wheel just spins endlessly. I've tried waiting as much as 30 mins but no joy.

This started previously with my previous DAC, but I was using a DDC type device that changes USB to S/PDIF and I just figured that that device was somehow the cause. Now, I have a new DAC still connected to the SoTM via USB and the same issue exists.

Any Ideas of how to overcome this issue and get Squeezelite to load in Enuhasu? I want to try it with my new DAC. It's been a while since I used that protocol, but it always worked before.

I'm on version : V0.5.51 and Kernel version : 6.1.60-211.fc32.armv7hl

External USB Music Library - on computer or on SMS200?https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69711-external-usb-music-library-on-computer-or-on-sms200/ My 500gb external music library is on a simple USB drive attached to my iMac. There, the contents of the library are included in my Roon and recently Audirvana Studio music programs.

I know that the SMS200 Ultra Neo has a USB input for attaching an external library, but in all these years I've never used it.

My question is, is there any benefit to relocating that external drive to the SoTM device rather than have it attached to my iMac? And, if so, what.

I'm also unclear how I'd even point my music playing apps to finding the external drive connected to the SoTM?????

Why hasn't SOtM introduced the SMS300 yet?https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/68858-why-hasnt-sotm-introduced-the-sms300-yet/ It's 2023 there are dozens of $800 network streamers with vastly more features. What is missing from the SOtM SMS200 Ultra Neo lineup you ask?

The first easy answer is more outputs than just a USB output. Why no, AES-EBU, or S/PDIF Coax or BNC or Optical?? Why no option for optical fiber internet built into the unit?. Heck, while we're dreaming wild dreams... why no display of any kind? Sure the competition has full-color touch screens but SOtM doesn't even have a small LED row of lights to indicate resolution. Nothing nada - just a network activity flashing light.

The only "BIG" change to the SMS200 Ultra has been the addition of a new capacitor in the power supply to make a whole new "NEO" model. A filter cap change makes a new model??????

Talk about the SMS200 Ultra Neo with any other audiophile and they're likely to say, "Whatsssat?"

At this point the Holo Audio Red streamer, introduced hardly a year ago, is likely outselling SOtM 100 to 1.

Wake up SOtM - look around at the market and compete or your future isn't very bright.

sMS200 NAA DSD512https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69385-sms200-naa-dsd512/ @MayfromSOtM hi May

I have just “discovered” a strange behavior of sMS200 playing DSD512 from HQPlayer/NAA

As you probably know HQPlayer let us choose if upsampling within the sample rate “family” (“Auto rate family” and “48k DSD”) or not.

This means that I can upsample by integer multiple or not, for example:

  1. PCM 24/48 to DSD512 (48000x512=24576000) … it is a integer multiple
  2. PCM 24/48 to DSD512 (44100x512=22579200) … it isn’t a integer multiple

it happens that:

  • in the case 1) playing stops after 30’/40’ … it seems sMS200/NAA crashes
  • in the case 2) everything works fine as it should

I’m wondering if this is an “expected” behavior (the sMS200 limit is DSD512/22579000) or it’s a sort of bug.

For your information I’m using a rpi4 running RoPieee/NAA (now on 4.6.0 version) too and it works fine in both cases using the same dac.

thank you for your attention

Stefano

Eunhasu firmware version number 0.5.6 is ready on our alpha server.https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69564-eunhasu-firmware-version-number-056-is-ready-on-our-alpha-server/ Greetings!

Eunhasu firmware version number 0.5.6 is ready on our alpha server.

Version : V0.5.6
– Date : 03-15-2024
– Add the network tune at a time when enabled the CPU latency tune.
– Adjust the none audio Eunhasu process service priority down.
– Update the MPD config page.
– Remove the buffer settings & set 100MB by default.
– Remove the buffer before play & Period time.
– Add the & cache buffer size 1GB.
– Update the Eunhasu service code

And the MPD V0.23.15 and UPMPDCLI v1.8.9 have also been updated.

To reflect the above, the beta server should be enabled first and then, remove the MPD/DLNA function and reinstall it in the MPD&DLNA config page.
After this update, you must change any value or content on the MPD/DLNA config page and be sure to save the settings.

In the MPD function, the buffer setting part has been removed, so if you experience a noise problem that can be adjusted with the buffer value, please report it.

We are also considering ways to make it usable again as before.

The proper test environment should be Eunhasu V. 0.5.6(alpha server) and the kernel V.6.1.60-212 and also upgrade thge mpd(beta server) and test it.

Additionally, there have been a function to return it to DHCP if you set Eunhasu’s IP to Static but cannot remember the IP address.
In this case, “connect to the LAN port to the device by a lan cable, reboot, disconnect the LAN cable, wait 15 minutes, and reconnect the LAN cable” was the process to return to DHCP from static IP, but it has been changed to wait within 5 minutes after rebooting for the first time.

For the alpha server testing, please access to the alpha server by following url, http://<your Eunhasu ip address>/upgrade.php?upgrade_server=alpha

Once done upgrading to the alpha server, then, reboot the device and you are ready to test.

After upgrading to the alpha version(0.5.6), please go to the beta server by following the instruction,

1. Access to http://<your Eunhasu ip address>/beta.php, and enable the “beta server”, click “Save changes” button to be applied correctly.

2. Click the Kernel check button(Update the kernel version no.) in the system update page and check the kernel version no. is updated to the 6.1.60-212.

3. Test it.(if you would like to test MPD, go to the MPD&DLNA config page to remove and reinstall the MPD/DLNA feature, and then apply any values newly to the MPD&DLNA config page and save the change.)

4. And disable the beta server after done testing. (Access to http://<your Eunhasu ip address>/beta.php and disable the beta server)

Eunhasu kernel version no. is updated in the Beta server.https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69500-eunhasu-kernel-version-no-is-updated-in-the-beta-server/ Hello All !

We've built a new kernel version no.6.1.60-212 and it is currently in our beta server, this kernel version no. is mainly for the users whom use the ITF USD DSD solution DAC such as Teac, Esoteric, Denon, Marantz and etc, this kernel version no. could fix bugs that can occur when changing the sampling rate or changing the track during playback in such products. But if you have the different brand's DAC and experience the similar situation, then try to apply this kernel version no. in the beta server.

Please follow the instruction below.

1. Access to http://<ip address>/beta.php and enable the "beta server", click "Save changes" button to be applied correctly.

image.thumb.png.1eb6fecce2b39600f3c33b59d8dca78d.png

2. Click the Kernel check button(Update the kernel version no.) in the system update page and check the kernel version no. is updated to the 6.1.60-212.

3. Test it. And disable the beta server after done testing. (Access to http://<ip address>/beta.php and disable the beta server)

Thank you.

About CPU frequency function on the sMS-200 and sMS-200ultra, https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69285-about-cpu-frequency-function-on-the-sms-200-and-sms-200ultra%C2%A0/ We’ve tested it with the following settings,
- Set Network speed 1Gbps(when set the Network speed 100Mbps, it had an issue, so it should be tested with 1Gbs.)
- Enabled the latency tune
- Used Roon ready. (When used the app such as required faster processing like LMS, MinimServer, BubbleUPnP Server, it requires high frequency. When used the app such as Roon ready, MPD, HQplayer, Shairport, LibreSpot, Squeezelite(not LMS) , they would work with this setting environment. .
- And the kernel version no. is 6.1.60-211(it's currently in our beta server)

Result.
- The unit works upto 312Mhz, it becomes slow, but no problems for operations and playback.
- But the frequency set below 312Mhz, the unit itself became slower so even accessing to the web gui is difficult. There is 144Mhz set available when set below 312Mhz CPU frequency, but this 144Mhz selection has an issue such as when trying to accessing to the Web gui or doing other tasks while playing music, it’s impossible to do it, so 144Mhz set option will be removed in the next upgrade.

Conclusion.
- When tested with 312MHz, we can achieve the best sound quality. Compared to the default setting, we can proudly say the sound upgrade with CPU frequency settings is more than twice. Considering the price of the product, it was good enough before, but if you set up CPU FREQUECY, then I would say it is the best value for money.

Just wondering... Can the SMS200 Ultra run a different OS SD Cardhttps://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69460-just-wondering-can-the-sms200-ultra-run-a-different-os-sd-card/ I've got no problems with the SoTM's existing OS, I was just wondering if some other OS SD card was used would the device boot up and output audio?

I have no specific OS in mind but the usual Linux audio choices such a Volumio, HiFiBerryOS, Ropieee, PiCorePlayer and etc???

Not sure why I care, just wondering and if anyone has tried this... if it's even possible????

May, what is "Period Time" in NAA Setup?https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69445-may-what-is-period-time-in-naa-setup/ I'm having an issue where Roon looses contact with the NAA using HQ Player 5.X after 45 mins of play time. The HQP developer says it is due to my computer having DHCP enabled (even though I have it disabled in SoTM's setup with a static IP)

So, I'm looking for various settings that might effect this. In the SMS200 NAA configuration there is a setting "Period Time" and it's set at the default 4096 - but what is it, and what does the setting refer to?

Reinstall HQP NAAhttps://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69338-reinstall-hqp-naa/ Hi,

My SMS200 Ultra firmware is 0.5.1, and I tried to update the HQP NAA and as suggested I uninstalled the old version of NAA.

Once removed and I tried to reinstall, however, I tried many times by clicking install HQP NAA but failed. It still need to be installed.

I have download the 0.5.1, 0.5.3 and 0.5.5 but all of them and burn into several SD card, but are showing that HQP NAA needs to be installed.

Is there anyway I can reinstall the HQP NAA ?

Thanks

Need testers for Eunhasu Alpha version no.0.5.5https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69016-need-testers-for-eunhasu-alpha-version-no055/ Greetings!

Eunhasu firmware version number 0.5.5 is ready on our alpha server.

Version: V0.5.5
- Date: 11-24-2023
- Added 'CPU frequency' selector.
- Added 'Set Max volume' button.
- Updated eunhasu, smb avahi services.
-Disabled unused avahi service(nfs).
- Changed a few GUI texts.
- Fixed up 'Start with Logitech Media Server' bug.

CPU Latency tune and CPU frequency functions can improve sound quality by changing CPU and OS settings.
This feature is only available with the latest version of Eunhasu firmware and the latest kernel versions.

- CPU Latency tune
The biggest function of CPU Latency tune is that it improves sound quality by controlling CPU operation and OS functions.

When this function is turned off, like other general OS settings, when the CPU does not need to be operated, the CPU settings are changed to operate slowly or stop operation to reduce power consumption. If the CPU operates slowly or stops and the CPU needs to operate quickly again due to processing, change the CPU's frequency and settings to enable it to operate quickly again. However, during this operation, the operating frequency and voltage of the CPU change, and the CPU's response to certain processing (latency) becomes slow, which reduces sound quality.

If you turn on CPU Latency tune, the CPU will wait for content to be processed without changing the CPU's operating frequency and voltage even when it does not need to operate. Additionally, when something needs to be processed, it can be processed immediately without having to change the operating frequency and voltage of the CPU, so the CPU's response (latency) becomes very fast and the best sound quality can be maintained.
To change this setting, you must reboot Eunhasu for the setting to take effect.
For the best sound quality, we recommend always turning it on.

-CPU frequency
* Performance: Automatically controls the operating frequency and turbo boost function of the installed CPU.
* Frequency : Set the CPU frequency.
* Frequency + turbo: Turns on the CPU's basic maximum frequency (base frequency) and turbo boost function, and if necessary, the CPU's frequency is automatically controlled up to the max turbo frequency.
* Frequency only: Operates the CPU at the selected frequency. The turbo boost function is turned off and a constant frequency is always maintained.

If the frequency setting is too slow, the CPU may not be able to process the required processing quickly, which may cause problems with music playback. Therefore, you must test to set the frequency to a problem-free frequency.
It is recommended to set it to 50 to 80% of the CPU's maximum speed, but depending on the PC situation, it may operate without problems at lower frequencies and sound quality may be improved.

Note: Turbo boost is supported on Intel series CPUs such as sMS-1000SQ and sMQ-Q370.

For the alpha testing, please access to the alpha server by following url, http://<your Eunhasu ip address>/upgrade.php?upgrade_server=alpha

Once done upgrading to the alpha server, then, reboot the device and you are ready to test.

Thank you!

The audio grade USB card, tX-USBx10G, is finally available.https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/69032-the-audio-grade-usb-card-tx-usbx10g-is-finally-available/ As SOtM was the forerunner of the audio grade USB card, finally tX-USBx10G at its finest is ready.

tX-USBx10G_Main.thumb.jpg.ff0bbbc76c802a05143e86d4fff3a132.jpg

The tX-USBx10G, as you may already get a hint from the model name, it supports USB 3.1 Gen 2×1 specification, supporting USB SuperSpeed of up to 10Gbps.

The most noticeable improvement in sound aspect of the tX-USBx10G is that it expresses singer’s voice and textures of instruments without distortion very clearly, as if they were present at the scene. In addition, even emotions of performers who exchange music each other and where the microphone was installed and recorded on the stage can be easily revealed well.
However, it can be said that the biggest improvement of using tX-USBx10G is not only the improvement of detailed expressions, but also the ability to feel the taste of beautiful music alive.

Check more about it on our website, https://www.sotm-audio.com/sotmwp/english/portfolio-item/tx-usbx10g/

Thank you!

Available front ends to sMS-200https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/68847-available-front-ends-to-sms-200/ Hello everyone,

I currently use an iMac as a streaming server (front end) to the sMS200. I think using an Ethernet LAN for streaming music is the best way as I do not have to locate my iMac close to the sMS-200 and the rest of my system. Most streaming servers have tiny screens that are not clearly readable from my sitting position (about 3.5 meters away) I run Roon currently but have tried, at various times, JRiver and Audirvana. My problem with these apps is their relative stability. I almost need to restart these apps about once wee. My iMac runs 24/7 365 days a year (unless Im on holiday). The iMac is a few years old so cannot install the latest MacOS and am stuck with Big Sur (11.7.8) not that this will improve things as I also run JRiver on another iMac installed with Ventura 13.5.2 and JRiver crashes randomly.

I'm seriously considering replacing my iMac with a dedicated streaming server connected to the sMS-200 and was wondering what configurations other users have in their systems currently. I have looked at Innuos Zen Mini, Small Green Computer's SonicTransport. Are there any others out there with a reasonable price (~US$2k)? Any device must have an Ethernet port to stream, a good user interface to rival Roon (if possible), have a mobile app as controller, be sonically excellent (obviously), be able to play at least PCM 384k and DSD 256 (over DoP), have oversampling and downsampling features, connect via UPNP/DLNA, have Roon core (only grudgingly as I am not at all pleased to pay Roon's expensive licence fee. I do not need a built in DAC as my Bricasti M1SE is excellent sonically.

Suggestions will be welcome and it would be great if you can post your working configurations that are connected to the sMS-200. Thanks.

Masterclock in Sotm deviceshttps://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/68959-masterclock-in-sotm-devices/Hello everyone. Can anyone provide information about the differences in SQ that exist in adding a master clock to a txUsb Ultra or connecting that same master clock to 3 different devices. txUsb Ultra, Sms200 Ultra Neo and Snh-10g Sclk-ex. I haven't found much information about it. I want to know if the difference is significant or if I will hardly notice improvements in SQ Thank you for your answers. ]]>68959Tue, 14 Nov 2023 20:42:55 +0000Need testers for Eunhasu Alpha version no.0.5.4.2https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/68937-need-testers-for-eunhasu-alpha-version-no0542/ Is there anyone interested in testing Eunhasu Alpha version no.0.5.4.2?

It is the minor upgrade that fixed shairport-sync bugs.

Version : V0.5.42
- Date : 11-09-2023
- Uninstall older version shairport packages
- Fixed up shairpot-sync start, stop, restart bug

You can access to the alpha server by following url, http://<your Eunhasu ip address>/upgrade.php?upgrade_server=alpha

Once done upgrading to the alpha server, then, go to Shairport config page to remove and reinstall the function, then, you are ready to test.

Thank you.

Best regards, May
