Master Clock for your EtherREGEN

I went with a Crystal Clear Audio Magnum Opus 3 BNC Digital cable, bought as a ex-demo cable from Audiogon. I was looking at the Tubulus Concentus and this popped up. This cable is a 6N silver coax cable at a new price of US$1,275 it would be a bit excessive between the AfterDark OCXO unit and the EtherREGEN, but I was able to get an excellent deal, at a good fraction of list price. -

Ok, will do, if/when I go this route, which is likely. But I thought that with the Tubulus Concentus Clock cable 😆 -

@MartinT What did you do, when using the Black Ravioli feet, with or without the original dome pads? -
Including SonoreUPnP Bridge with SonicOrbiter OS 2.9

Good to know. The 555DR on the nDac is also meant to be very good. I did see a Teddy XPS Plus availble before the Sean Jacobs supply came up. I also have some further upgrade options available with it, as it uses DC3 components, so you can add his latest DC4 versions. -

Not Irish, but English, I just chose to live here. I will have to process an application for naturalisation, at some point, as I want an EU Passport, and the ability to move freely, without Visa, within the EU. Something the UK had since the '70s, but threw it away. Please tell me you pronounce 'Notre Dame' as the French do, given it is a French place name dating back well before the formation of the US, and not how I hear it murdered by visiting US tourists? 😄 I considered various options for the OCXO, from a DIY solution to an ex-GSM transmitter tower unit, the LCY, and the Mutec units. So quite a price range from the $20's to the $2,500s. Hence the AfterDark units with the graded range of performance are attractive and a reasonable place to start against value-for-money. I have the King unit, so 1/3 up the AD scale, and just into the $1,000s for the unit and a few $100 for the associated power supply. This can be bettered in the future, with the likes of a Farad3, and the cables. -

Good to hear, enjoy the SonoreUPnP bridge on SO2.9 with the NDS. From what I can determine from ND555 users, the Roon implementation on a ND555 is not a good as the UPnP. So with SonoreUPnP into the NDS using UPnP should be on par with a ND555 in a Roon environment. Particularly if you optimize the NDS with split power supplies and networking. I have a Sean Jacobs supply on Socket 2 for the Analogue circuitry, with the Naim 555DR powering the Digital circuitry. Also a EtherREGEN powered by a Farad3 with external clock & dedicated power supply. -

Both @russellbobby and @MartinT reported that the Clock cable made a difference between the AD OCXO unit and EtherREGEN. They use the Tubulus Concentus, which I was intending to buy, before this Crystal Clear Audio cable came up. -

A further question, as I consider the isolation position of the Afterdark OCXO unit - when looking at alternate feet, whether Sorbothane type or bearing based, it is best to remove the existing rubber dome feet and place the new supports at the 4 corners of the casework? Or underneath the existing rubber dome feet? Thanks, Simon. -

Taken delivery of a Crystal Clear Audio Magnum Opus 3 BNC Digital cable, bought as a ex-demo cable from Audiogon. I was looking at the Tubulus Concentus and this popped up. Just warming up it, with some Roger Water’s Lockdown Sessions, but the initial impression is is good so far. Even the cable is ex-demo I don’t believe it has much use, so it will be break in again. -

Just enter the name of the UPnP Renderer into the field, so you don’t need the scanning functionality. -

Hi, Is this fuse still available? If so, would you ship to Dublin, Ireland? Thanks, Simon -

Hi @AfterDark. could you advise on the location of the fuse on the AfterDark 12v power supply, with the switch above the IEC socket. Also what physical size is the fuse, and a slow or fast blow 2A version for 220v operation? -
I have looked at this, as my 1st UltraCap 1 unit used for my UltraRendu failed (I got a replacement from Alex, probably one of the very last ones), so the options, as I see them are: 1. Sonore 7v Power Supply (they use to offer a Signature Power version) 2. Farad Super3 (I use this power supply @12v on my EtherREGEN) 3. Sonore are reported to have a limited number of Channel Islands 7v supplies offered here https://sonore-us.myshopify.com/products/ciaudio-7vdc-mkii-power-supply?_pos=1&_sid=0ecff3918&_ss=r (I had a 5v version on a Squeezebox 3) 4. Sean Jacobs DC3 (I have a specialised version of this supply, on the analogue output stage of my Naim NDS Reference Network player. 5. Second hand UltraCap 1.2 and roll the dice again 😆

Master Clock for your EtherREGEN

Yes, I have Harmonic Technologies Magic interconnects, Magic Digital (RCA S/PDIF), Optical Digital, HDMI/DVI, Pro9 Speakers cables then a collection of AC11, Fantasy AC10 and Magic Reference Mains cables. The Magic Reference are something else! But I would always be wondering about 100% of the performance, so will see if I can hang on for the Tubulus Concentus, and do it properly. -

So ‘Day 38’ and a silver DC cable now between Clock and the Power supply, and something has certainly changed for the wonderful. More depth, more soundstage, better definition. Leading and trailing edges on Drums, Cymbals are now so, so much more, the cymbals almost shimmer and you can imagine how they look once they have been struck. Clock cable next, next month! -

What experiences have other users of the AfterDark clock had with isolation for the clock unit and it’s power supply? What works best under the clock unit, where & how is it best positioned? Plus fuse in the AfterDark clock power supply? What’s fitted, can it be changed and what works? -

Is the fuse in the AfterDark “BLACK MODERNIZE LPS X GIESEMANN OCXO 10M EDITION” changable?” I bought the OCXO King Edition with this power supply. It has the NCF IEC input, just not sure what was specified for its fuse. I am using it with a JPS Labs Power AC+ cable I had available, but given this costs more than $500 new, which is more than the Supply currently is. This has a Synergistic Red Mains fuse in the plug. -
Article: UpTone Audio EtherREGEN Review and Comparison
simon_pepper replied to austinpop's topic in Article Comments
Late to this review for some reason, however as owner of an EtherREGEN from Nov ‘19 (the first batch), I can wholly agree with all the findings. From 1st introduction with an existing ZeroZero 12v power supply. Then Farad3 power supply, couple of years ago, with L2 silver cable, Power cable etc. And now AfterDark OXCO Clock at King level, with its matching power supply. All steps offering substantial improvements to the SQ from a Naim NDS in a Roon environment (with 555DR & Sean Jacobs power supplies) through the SonoreUPnP bridge running on an UltraRendu with a UltraCap LPS 1. Further experiments with Clock cable & DC cable for the OXCO Clock are planned, as this is reported to provide further incremental benefit, though not at the same level of the main steps. -
I use ReadyNAS units just as NAS units. They run some sort of Linux distribution, but require no maintenance/upgrades etc. I have a primary NAS unit (Dual Core with bonded Gigabit ports, with a 100W LPS) with 2* 10TB disks in RAID1, then 2 for backups, 1 (Single core also with bonded Gigabit ports) with 2 * 8TB disks in RAID1 and a 2nd older unit with 2 * 2TB disks in RAID1. There are backup jobs, which essentially are rsync jobs, backing from Primary to backup units. I also maintain an offline backup on a RAID0 unit with USB 3.0 and 2 * 6TB, so 12TB available. My library is indexed by a Roon Server running on NUC7i7DNK with 16GB RAM and 250 NVMe Gen3 SSD (the quad core version used in a Gen B Nucleus+, but also running on 100W LPS) and a UPnP server running Asset on a RPi2, also on a LPS. The library is circa 7,500 Albums, and 110K tracks but is 70% HiRes with little none Lossy formats. It presently is about 9TBs worth. Having on NAS means it can be managed directly as network volume, backed up by standard rsync jobs, and indexed by multiple servers, whereas if stored on a HDD or SDD in a ‘audiophile’ server it is harder to get to, and treat as generic data.
