Running the Mu1 as an end point from my SR7 turbo, taiko atx PC. Surprised that this configuration has produced an improvement in; separation, width and depth. Very unexpected.

Thank you for the “sound” advice - good to hear an alternative view. Would not proceed without an extensive audition and like you need an analogue preamp.

Thank you.

yes have that showing 👍

Thank you for the info. Have server up and running trying to connect to MU1 ?

Thanks Have read a good few of CP's HFA reviews and did see his very favorable MU1 one. It was difficult to assess his actual take on the MU2 he obviously likes it but he seems very keen on the Aqua LinQ, although I guess that it a different implementation needing a separate server. With all these things there is no substitute for direct listening experience. I have wondered about trying the MU1 as an end point with my own server but do not know how to do that. The reason I wanted to try is the internal storage drive on the Grimm will not let me edit it, keep getting error messages. Contacted Grimm about it but they have been unable to sort it remotely.

Thank you for your reply and take on the MU2. Yes the reason I purchased the makua was to reduce the box count. The addition of the MU1 has been a revelation. Changing from the MU1 would entail expensive duplication as I would want to keep the makua with its internal phono stage. I should keep off forums 😁

Thank you for the info - would be great to try it out in my system but probably too far from you, I am in Wiltshire.

Thank you for the reply. Having been a long time PC server builder I bought a MU1 in December last year after a comparison with an Inuos statement. In my system (which has completly changed from the one in my account, due to a house move) the Makua + Mu1 sounds excellent, I use a Siltech 380D AES connection to the Makua. So yes, I guess I am curious as I am very happy with the sound I currently achieve. Also I use analogue and my Makua has the excellent phono module installed. Reading the comments here MU1+Tambaqiui owners seem to have moved over to the MU2. Intrestingly I saw the GTT audio video about the Tambaqui v the MU2 a while ago and took it on face value, so did not really look at the MU2 in any detail. As my MU1 is a more mature version than the ones most of the users on this thread have/had, no longer has the usb input for instance, I wonder if it sounds any different to the earlier versions?

Has anyone been able to compare the mm Makua with built in Dac module + MU1 (my setup) to the MU2?

Article: Grimm Audio MU1 Music Player Review
dctom replied to The Computer Audiophile's topic in Article Comments
I like your diagram very informative. I have tried the CD directly into the Makua and unsurprisingly it is better than through the CD's DAC but not as good as through the MU1. Trying to work out how to get my computer server to play through the Grimm now. -
Article: Grimm Audio MU1 Music Player Review
dctom replied to The Computer Audiophile's topic in Article Comments
I purchased a MU1 last year after a long comparison with an Innuos statement. For several years I have been using my DIY server (recently upgraded with new MB and i7-13700cpu) based on the Audiophile style server building threads - A novel way to massively improve the SQ of computer audio streaming / Building a diy music server (Nenon et al). Running Audiolinux and HQplayer utilising the Taiko ATX-DC and powered by a P Haynes SR7, silver wired, turbo. It sounds excellent, so good in fact I sold my vinyl set up of Kuzma XL 4pt, Lyra Atlas and Ypsilon phono stage. It also compares very favourably to the Grimm, however the Grimm just seems more natural and adds a better sense of flow. I was interested to see some owners use the MU1 as an end point and wondered what the set up proceedure is to achieve that? I would be interested to try out using my server streaming to the MU1 - at least it would not be redundant, although I might be able to sell it. Something I have tried with the MU1 is play an old CD player (Pioneer 802 - plays CD inverted) through it via the CD player's SPDIF out. The result is quite amazing the CD virtually equals the same file ripped to HD when played through the MU1. I have the MU1 connected to my Mola Mola Makua pre, which has a Tambqui DAC module incorporated, via AES. So my assumption is the Grimm's clocking and FPGA are improving the CD player's signal dramaticlly prior to sending the information to the DAC. -
Aurender W20SE vs Grimm Audio Mu-1
dctom replied to Sangster's topic in Networking, Networked Audio, and Streaming
The Grimm works particularly well with the Tambaqui. The MU1 has AES outputs which can connect with the Tambaqui and give superior results to USB. The Designer ( Bruno Putzeys) of the Mola Mola DAC also had an input on the Grimm. Aparantly there is a strong synegy between the two. -
HiFi Rose RS130 network transport

Thank you for that. I am investigating streamers at the moment having used my diy servers for years. Have you experience of other streamers in comparison to the Rose? -

How do you implement Audirvana, could you use it with HQplayer? -
Thank you for the suggestion - not easily availeable in the uk, simlar boards are pretty expensive here.
-
do you think it will be ok with AMD Ryzen cpu?
-
Does anyone have experience of a good current mATX motherboard for a small server build?
-
Rather nostalgic seeing this qouted - I follwed Nenon's experiments avidly whilst building my server, he kindly obtained some apacer ram for me.

Anyone investigated the new sotm pci express tX-USBx10G USB CARD ?https://www.sotm-audio.com/sotmwp/english/portfolio-item/tx-usbx10g/

Thanks - I made a mistake, actually it is the play view I have been using. ☹️

Trying to get client on laptop to control HQP embedded on remote computer . Embedded shows up on the laptop network locations but embedded does not show up in the drop down on the client's album view screen, has worked fine previously. Restarted the remote server several times.
