  1. @TRHH Hi Torben, Here is where I ordered the case: https://www.amazon.de/Festplattengehäuse-Festplatte-unterstützt-Festplatten-SUPERSPEED/dp/B00FFE0GPA?pd_rd_w=TM5qV&content-id=amzn1.sym.83e2f3cd-483e-4714-8593-69ff6b513968&pf_rd_p=83e2f3cd-483e-4714-8593-69ff6b513968&pf_rd_r=3V09G323NWKG92FTWA5K&pd_rd_wg=e77Zq&pd_rd_r=04090d3d-587a-43ec-973a-dbe449a22d98&pd_rd_i=B00FFE0GPA&ref_=pd_bap_d_grid_rp_0_1_t&th=1 Please have a look here too. This is my recommendation for now: https://www.open-end-music.com/forum/tuning-update-reparatur-und-restauration/tuning/tuning-allgemein/685685-sabrent-klanglich-positive-alternative-zu-inateck-1153-festplattengehaeuse
  2. 14 years after his tragic death Esbjörn Svensson´s wife discovered a HDD with solo pieces presumably recorded by himself in his studio. Thanks to ACT the quality is superb as are all of the tracks on "HOME.S" with a great dynamic range.
  3. No problem: https://www.fantec.de/produkte/speicherprodukte/ssd-festplattengehaeuse/25-zoll-festplattengehaeuse/produkt/details/artikel/1661_fantec_225u3_6g/ For me it is a good choice as it uses USB 3.0 so for those being familiar with making cables it is not a big problem to build a Y-solidcore cable with good Viborg connectors from here: https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/usb-connectors/viborg-ua201-male-usb-a-20-connector-gold-24k-plated-o85mm-p-14437.html I hope this will be of help for you. Best wishes, Uwe
  4. As I have written elsewhere: I would like to make another recommendation: After having listened to my music stored on a Thunderbolt HDD, for more than 100 hrs I am using a Samsung PM893 SSD. It is encased in a metal Fantec case with an ASM1153E chipset which is favoured in a German audio forum. I was surprised to learn at first (even short) listening that this combo easily outperformed my Thunderbolt HDD with more details, dynamics and a better soundstage to name a few. I then replaced a cheap cable by a Y-silvercore cable. At first I was disappointed to only find that both were on par. But after quite a few hours the silvercore cable opened more and more. I use a HDPLEX 300W as a linear power supply to provide 5V for the Fantec case. So for me there is no way back. The final step will probably be to modify the Fantec board inside for an even better power supply. Best wishes, Uwe
  5. @MarcelNL Mark Cole, Sales and Support Manager @ Antipodes Audio wrote: 30.08.22 "Indeed the Samsung PM893 SSD is the new standard for best playback from local files." and: "The PM893 has been tested at our facility at proven to be both very reliable and the best sounding we have used to date." 04.09.22 "Hi there, we have compared the QVO, EVO and PM SSD’s in our listening room by switching between OLADRA’s. The QVO and EVO are still great, the best out there, until we heard the PM. We can only advise our findings, your ears, your room, your server, your source material may yield a different result." https://antipodes.support/t/ssd-recommendation-for-new-k-models/359/57 Best, Uwe
  6. Yes I know, Richard, but although the technical data provided by the seller don´t have any information as to sine or square wave clock I decided to order the filter, which hopefully will be delivered within the next few days. I will share my experience with it thereafter. Best, Uwe
  7. Sorry, I have no idea. Maybe there will be an indirect answer to your question, if the filter that John Swenson mentioned and that I am waiting for, will push SQ even more.
  8. As I mentioned before,"those flimsy cords (to be seen on 1 picture) have been replaced by a 2.5mm connector."
  9. If someone is interested in a cheap alternative to the Chinese clock MartinT has started this thread with, here is what I use with great satisfaction: Constant Temperatur Crystal OCXO 10Mhz 0.01PPM 2 Channel Output. https://www.ebay.de/itm/184296816517 For me it has the advantage to only need 5v. So if there isn´t a LPSU 5v at hand, this clock can be powered with an USB output. At the moment I am using a power bank for that purpose after those flimsy cords (to be seen on 1 picture) have been replaced by a 2.5mm connector. Moreover there is no need to worry about BNC-cables. My external clock is attached to the ER with rigid BNC adaptors that I bought here: https://www.amazon.de/YILIANDUO-Connector-Handfunkelektronik-Kamerascanner-Funkgeräte/dp/B07K1XHQQ9/ref=pb_allspark_dp_session_sims_pao_desktop_4/257-6201746-3777357?pd_rd_w=4KKjI&pf_rd_p=d0ecb613-4040-45f8-b335-5cd8ff54c281&pf_rd_r=67FX574W6WVKDWQMF3ZC&pd_rd_r=4f9712a8-6ae9-4e74-a428-29037f62fe41&pd_rd_wg=We0wC&pd_rd_i=B07K1XHQQ9&psc=1 Regards, Uwe
  10. For all of you who have been sad about Alboran Trio´s silence (see my post from April 30, 2019) here is a very good message I just got from Paolo Paliaga: They have released a new CD "Islands"! You can already enjoy it on Spotify: https://pirames.lnk.to/Islands All the best, Uwe
  11. Hi Uwe, The Farad 3 interests me as well, but the price tag so far made me refrain from buying it. Instead I am very pleased using a Zerozone LPS: https://www.ebay.de/itm/ZEROZONE-Finished-65VA-Ultra-Low-Noise-linear-Power-supply-5V-9V-12V-15V-18V-etc-/322429316074 which is a lot cheaper and brings the ER forward too, surely (?) not as much as a Farad 3 would do. However, one warning I have to make: Using the Zerozone 12v LPS lead to massive hiccups, (Hi Crom! #701) --> https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/57519-uptone-audio-etherregen-listening-impressions/page/29/#comments so pleasant listening became impossible. Via the German "aktiv hoeren" forum I got contact to a helpful audiophyle who uses the identical type of LPS now knowing that at least for 2 years (that is the age of my LPS, his is nearly new) it is produced with a bug (at least the 12v version). He kindly soldered a capacitor to the board thus achieving a constant flow of 12v. After this LPS-modification the ER works as it should have done from the beginning, which is brilliantly. Best, Uwe
  12. As a lot has already been said by users, who were quicker than me, about the merits of ER sonicwise I in short will concentrate on what has happened in my chain after 300 hrs of burning-in. Apart from the music being tighter and more precise it is mainly the soundstage which is still developing with instruments more focused, presenting more details in a more natural way, which is highly enjoyable, as is the fact that I can follow more easily and much longer the tones fading away. So far I have used a 5TB 3,5´´ Thunderbolt HDD as music storage which "sounded" better than a 2,5´´USB-attached HDD. But with more "quietness between the notes" I had to put away the Thunderbolt HDD now being too noisy. I hope I can overcome the disadvantage (sonicwise) of the 2,5´´ HDD by using a USB Regen. Though I have decided to no longer write down what changes my ears picked up, I am convinced the ER is still on its way to make for even more musicality.
  13. Hi Jud, Did you mention the Monoprize Cable as an alternative for your Cable Matters Cat 8 cable?
  14. Hi John, Thank you so much for the clarification concerning the thermal issue. Best wishes, Uwe
  15. Did I get you right and is it common knowledge that apart from burn-in and its influence on SQ there is also an impact on thermal stability?
  16. Shame on me. I surely did not interpret the technical data sheet correctly.
  17. Hi Johnnydev, You are right asking this question. For me as a non-technician it is more a matter of taste rather than knowledge about physics. In my mind (and I may be wrong) electronic equipment has a longer span of life if its working at low temperatures.
  18. Hi Alex, Sorry that I got Jud wrong. All the best for you and your family as well. Uwe P.S. The above shown heatsink weighs 2,6 kg. Would the case of the ER stand it?
  19. Hi Jud, Obviously, the Command Strips have the advantage to be easily removed if necessary. But as far as I can see the technical data lack information about the use as a heat transfer tape. So I think I will follow octaviars´ way and order a heatsink being a bit taller and in the first step simply put it on top of the ER and see, what happens. Best wishes, Uwe
