Optical Network Configurations
sandston replied to jabbr's topic in Networking, Networked Audio, and Streaming
Agreed! The science aside whatever it may be I hear the same changes when I modify the parameters of global digital environment. The problem for a layman such as myself is I find when I gain in one area I may lose in another. I think this community is closing in on the science of digital to its trial and error and from a few very capable contributors the science of it. This is why I find this website in this form in particular so fascinating. -
Dead & company at the sphere in Las Vegas. Saw one show last weekend and three shows the weekend before. There's a huge percentage of you that are going to read this and say to yourselves whatever. The rest of you are going to read this and you're going to ask yourselves should I go out and see that. I can emphatically tell you that you absolutely must see one of these shows if not multiple. I cannot wait to get back in the Sphere. The sound quality is in one hand like a small intimate jazz Club. You can hear absolutely every little nuance. At the same time it's like being at an outdoor festival. There's absolutely no reverb or base slap back. Dead & company with John Mayer at the helm is some of the best live music going right now. Think what you want about John Mayer. I am here telling you that we are watching the ascendancy of one of the world's greatest guitar players. Laugh all you want. I know there are some of you on here who know exactly what I'm talking about. This band just gets better and better and John Mayer just matures and comes into his own every year with absolute confidence brilliance and melodic soul. If you know what I'm talking about and you're wondering about whether or not it's worth making the trip I can tell you emphatically it absolutely is.

Introducing the Sonore opticalRendu Deluxe
sandston replied to vortecjr's topic in Sonore (Sponsored)
After three listening sessions with with my newly upgraded OpticalRendu Deluxe my initial impression is simply "Wow!". I I sold my initial OR when the new OR came out and I cant say I heard much of an improvement. There was an increase in stability running OS 2.9 however if there was an uptick in sound it may have gotten lost in other upgrades I did to my system at the time. I took Sonore up on their free upgrade offer and I couldn't be more impressed. What a fantastic company!!! This is one of the more significant SQ upticks I have experienced in a long time. The words I wrote down last light were "illuminated, texture, details and speed" The whole sonic presentation is just better and its not subtle. The soundstage is wider and deeper. Details emerged from just about every track I play. The increase in texture is the one that kept grabbing me last night along with this sense that a brighter light was turned on inside the music itself (illuminated). I know how cliched these descriptions sound but I will finish with run dont walk to the new OpticalRendu Deluxe. YMMV -
Sorry if you found my wording confusing. I hope this helps some users get a chance to try this cable. My layman's thought on why these AOC cables possibly sound better than the various modules plus cable solutions is that the laser is likely tuned to the specific cable length. Whereas the individual modules are designed to transmit over very long distances. There's been lots of discussion about whether or not these are best suited for the short distances that we audiophiles are using them for. I have all of the popular finisar modules (1475, 1318 etc) and prefer the Cisco AOC in my system. I agree with AfterDarks opinion on the Finisar AOC being a livelier (brighter) whereas the Cisco is a bit more natural (dark). Very system dependent of course.

Perhaps you should read my post a little closer. I am confident I got an actual Cisco AOC cable from an eBay seller and was letting other audiopile style users know that I think they can be confident buying from the seller instead of paying full retail for this popular cable.

I just picked up a Cisco AOC-10G-AOC7M from an eBay seller listed for $70. I made a slightly lower offer and it was accepted automatically. The cable just showed up and it appears to be a new cable. The serial number checks out on Cisco's fraud site. Also the hologram matches the one shown on the website and is indeed what they term a three layer in that the markings on the hologram appear to be at three different depths. Furthermore the serial number on the cable shown in the eBay photos are different than the serial number of the cable I purchased. The seller has 10 more cables in this length. It's possible they have additional lengths but you'll have to go to sellers other items yourself and search for them. Below is the link to the 7 m cable I picked up. https://www.ebay.com/itm/256232804782

Introducing the Sonore opticalRendu Deluxe
sandston replied to vortecjr's topic in Sonore (Sponsored)
WOW!!!!! Just simply wow!!! I have never seen a company with such integrity and pride. Such a proud owner of the original MicroRendu, OpticalRendu and now OpticalRendu 2. I swear my system sounds noticeably better this morning. Probably expectation bias but as long as we don't tell the guys on ASR we will survive this together. -
V2.9 has worked seamlessly with my opticalrendu v2 and my denafrips T2 DAC from the get go. I have not had to reset the optical rendu V2 once since I plugged it in. I probably got the first optical rendu as I bought it the moment it came out. It has been absolutely rock solid. I had to reset my original optical rendu a few times a week. Nice work guys!

Optical Network Configurations

I'm so confused by this Melco cable. Doesn't the use of copper wire negate the whole point of why we are using optical? Every day this hobby leaves me feeling like John Snow. -
Tecnomad Could you share the email address you used to contact Cisco on this please? I have the same Cisco AOC that I suspect may be fake. The Cisco scanning app recognizes it however it does not have a hologram. If the hologram is indeed on all of these true Cisco AOC units then there are a ton of fakes out there. Thank You, Steve

Thank you I need to do a whole round of trouble shooting again. Its probably something pretty benign that I have missed.
-
Forgot to add I have a Denafrips Hermes DDC between the DAC and the OR2. Really need to dig into this behavior more.
-
Early stages with the OpticalRendu 2 and I can report it seems very stable running OS 2.9 versus my original which did not like 2.9 one bit. I am one of the users who experienced additional issues with my Denafrips Terminator 2 dac that appeared to be unique 2.9. I can say so far the combination seems stable. According to Sonore there is a firmware issue with Denafrips that needed to be addressed to solve these issues. I have not looked to see if there has been a recent firmware update from Denafrips. Typically I get an email from Vinshine if there is. However I am still having the same issue I had with OS 2.8/2.9 and 24k/48k/96k.... streams into the Denafrips DAC. The music plays in Roon and Euphony however I get no sound out of the Terminator DAC. If I resample the music to a multiplier of 44.1K the music plays just fine. In my system I enjoy the extra bit of life and sparkle upsampling brings to my system so Im OK with this but it is an odd issue. Has anybody else encountered this or have any suggestions as to what may be happening here? I have the Terminator DAC in NOS mode typically. Now the part most people want to hear about is how does it sound? My initial impression is there is a greater sense of calm to the overall presentation. I am also hearing a bit more texture in the music and I am noticing details in familiar tracks that I have not heard in the past. Again its early and I am trying to manage my expectation bias but there does seem to be a noticeable improvement over the original. I am powereing the OR2 with a Uptone JS-2 LPS and its fed by a Etheregen being fed by a Farad LPS.

.....and purchased!!!! Very excited.
