Choose between MOG or Spotify
Clyde Willoughby replied to HIFI's topic in Networking, Networked Audio, and Streaming
MOG for me as well. It does sound better and is a great way to listen before making a purchase. I really like being able to download albums to my iPhone for listening during my daily commute. Can't decide if MOG has cost me or saved me money by being able to audition albums. Either way, I much prefer it to Spotify. -
I went with a px-w4824tu Plextor. Both of my Plextors are Japanese made. I picked up the 4824 for $30.50 on eBay. Haven't ripped anything yet but I am getting three Donald Fagen albums next week. They should prove it's worth. Since you stopped using Plextors what are you getting good results with now? I'm sure there are other good drives available but I thought I would stick with what I know.

It's a crime JB was left off this list. There are also a ton of extremely talented guitarists that didn't make it. Seems as if only "mainstream" artists and critics favorites were eligible.

My wife and I own and operate an oilfield service company in east Texas. I get to sleep with the boss!

I'm leaning toward a Plextor. If my 880 blows up tonight it has been a good one. It's done tons of rips and quite a few burns as well without a blip. I will look at the LB950 and am also looking at the PX-W4824TU. Should've bought a spare 880 when they were plentiful.

Thanks Brian. That helped a lot.

I currently use a Plextor PX-880U for all of my ripping duties. Like anything mechanical/electrical I expect it to fail at some time. Most likely at a bad time given my history. What is available now to replace this great little machine? I'm mostly concerned about accuracy and less about speed. Just looking for suggestions to begin the search. I'm asking here because I have grown to trust the opinions of CA readers. Thanks.

I always enjoy reading what "audiophiles" listen to. We are music lovers first. For me in 2010 the following... Allison Moorer, sister of Shelby Lynne. The Buddaheads. Electric blues. Turn it up. Ray Lamontagne...found him doing a Google search after hearing him sing on a TV commercial for an investment firm, I think. Jamey Johnson. Hard-core country. Probably too much so for radio. Eric Lindell. Swampy. J.J. Grey and Mofro. Swampier. Thanks to computer audio I have rediscovered a ton of music I already had in my collection. Stuff I haven't heard in years sounds fresh. I want to thank Chris and the people that contribute to this website. I've been a reader for some time and it has guided me through getting all of my music much more accessible. Happy New Year to all, Clyde
