Optical Network Configurations
TRHH replied to jabbr's topic in Networking, Networked Audio, and Streaming
I have been using optical (SFP + CommScope TeraSPEED) for a long time. At the same time implementing at lot of elements to reduce/eliminate potential common mode noise. I than bought Amphenol SFP+ 10GbE direct attach passive copper cable (DAC) and did a comparison. I still enjoy the DAC cable. -

So than we just need to buy a 10GbE+ switch and maybe an 10GbE+ FMC - depending on the setup - and we can see goodbye to noise. Interesting. -

Oktober 2024 einverstanden. Torben

Measurements clearly shows that is not the case. Torben -

I use a Jack DC 12V and 5V supercapacitor filter: "This DC 12V jack filter with supercapacitor allows you to obtain a clean power supply for your Hi-Fi equipment and appliances, thanks to 5 supercapacitors 20F - 3.0V and an intelligent buffer system with common mode suppression effect. It also incorporates a UTC UZ1085L linear voltage regulator, an STC 8H1K08 microcontroller and a ME85P03 MOSFET transistor." https://www.audiophonics.fr/en/hifi-power-supply/jack-dc-12v-filter-p-18610.html Torben -

@jabbr I don't think that I have any "common mode noise" problems in my setup anymore :-) And I don't have any plans to change the Amphenol SFP+ 10GbE direct attach passive copper cable (DAC) and I am not going back to fibre on the last mile. Torben -

Absolutely not the case here! I will not go back Torben -

THX @jabbr Have been looking at the product for specification FDBC125SD1Cxx but I can't find any information about "explicitly supports rates below 25G e.g. 10G,5G,2.5G and 1G". Can you help with a source? Torben -
THX Alex Switch models that are MSA (Multi-Source Agreement) compliant typically accept uncoded modules. MSA compliance means that the switch can work with modules (DAC, AOC, SFP) from multiple vendors as long as those modules adhere to the MSA standards. This compliance ensures interoperability between different manufacturers' equipment. I just replaced my current switch with an unmanaged switch designed with Realtek RTL8382L chip so I don't have to worry about that problem anymore. Torben

A have upgraded from Finisar SFP FTLF1318P3BTL to Amphenol SFP+ DAC. More detailed, exact representation of the instruments in the room, depth and clear separation. This is a clear improvement over my SFPs from Finisar and others that I have tested over time. Torben -
Is there a "opticalModule Deluxe V3" now? https://www.amazon.co.jp/SONORE-opticalModule-Deluxe-10Mbps対応光ファイバー-LANコンバーター/dp/B0CPHP6W1Y Does it accept DAC cables and can it be powered with LHY BATT-V1.2? (5VDC/2A) Torben

It seems that any of the generic Realtek based switches don't have that problem. As I am looking for new switch I ask the vendors the following Q's: Does the switch accept any uncoded (non-vendor-specific) modules, such as SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) and DAC (Direct Attach Copper cables)? Does the switch utilize customized EEPROMs that can create problems with different SFP (SFP optical module and Direct Attach Copper cable)? Is the switch compatibility with the vast majority of SFP (SFP optical module and Direct Attach Copper cable)? Torben -

That seems not to be the case with Cisco Meraki Go switch. It works just fine with Amphenol SFP+ 10GbE direct attach passive copper cable (DAC), quad-shielded 30 AWG twin-axial SKEWCLEAR wire (SF-SFPP2EPASS-002). Lucky me :-) Torben
