  1. Just ordered from Music Direct. This was a MUST own! Joni Mitchell - Ladies of the Canyon (Numbered Hybrid SACD) - Music Direct
  2. A seminal and brilliant album. Crosby Stills and Nash gets most of the kudos, and it was superb, and unforgettable, but this album took things to another, very different, but magnificent place. At the time of its release, the impact was nearly immeasurable. I was there and recall it as though it was yesterday. Shortly after its release I was about to attend a high school weekend of enlightenment sponsored by the church I attended. It was at a very isolated monastery. I had bought Deja Vu a few days earlier and brought it along. After our arrival, the monks, made available a record playing system (I cannot remember what it consisted of, but it was humble, at best). Quite a number of people had brought favorite, or current albums. A number of these were played, and then, I put on Deja Vu. The mood of the room completely changed, and people were mesmerized. There were multiple requests to play it again. And I did. As this was taking place, a couple of the monks wandered in and started listening, and were completely blown away by this music. Deja Vu became the mantra of the weekend. I have seldom seen a group of people so connected to one album, It had, obviously become one of the most important and valued albums of my lifetime, and it remains so. JC
  3. Chris, nice job explaining the conundrum of the vast, almost unlimited world of music available through streaming and what gets lost, ultimately, versus having a new cd, blu-ray, etc. just delivered and really focusing on the music it offers. Perfect example with that Bread disc you have been listening to. What I find really sad are the pronouncements from industry sources, audio related magazines, etc., especially of late, saying that the pressing and availability of CD's will likely come to a complete end, possibly as soon as the first quarter of next year, or shortly thereafter. There does seem to be some hope, for music continuing to be available on BluRay, as it is apparently selling reasonably well, but lets be honest, the numbers of those releases are quite small. When the time comes that I cannot even order a cd of a new release, it will be truly unfortunate, and more will be lost than is realized. JC
  4. We are ALL about the music here. However, if one does not have a means of reproducing it properly (thus the reason for this discussion) one cannot hear everything the music has to offer. JC
  5. I have a bit of history here. I remember seeing Bob Seger in a Detroit area high school auditorium when a friend's older brother got us in. I was in 8th grade. He was just on the verge of having his very first hit, at least locally, with "2 Plus 2 Is On My Mind". Many, many years later, a woman who was his longtime friend through grade school and high school, who I had hired to run the cheese counter at the wine store that I managed, invited me to join her for to Bob's Christmas party. Well, who says no to that? I actually ended up attending the party with her two years in a row. Great times despite feeling like I really didn't fit in with that crowd. And again, many years after that, I happened across a lovely female taxi driver in Edinburgh Scotland, and we began talking, Turned out that she was a huge fan of American rock music and her favorite artist was Bob Seger, who she absolutely loved. I casually mentioned my very slight connection to Bob, and, it seemed to be the catalyst to what became a very memorable night, and morning after. Cut to quite a few years later, when my oldest cousin, is the mayor of a very prestigious small town based on a lake community in the metro Detroit area. I had stopped by to drop something off to him, and he said, "Hey, would you like a nice boat ride? I said why not, whereupon he said, "I promised I would take this guy around the lake so he could see a number of houses he is considering buying from the water". I said, "Sure'. We got down to his dock and he had the boat ready, and who shows up, but Bob Seger! He walks over, and climbs into the boat. I never even though it possible he would have recognized meeting me from his Christmas parties which had hundreds of guests. But, after we finished, and my cousin had us up to the house for a beer, I di thank him for his part in my evening in Edinburgh. JC
  6. Thanks for turning me on to this. I had come across a previous recommendation somewhere, but simply hadn't gotten to it until seeing your post kicked me into gear and listening to it. It's clear these guys must have grown up with a distinct appreciation for spaghetti westerns! Really enjoyable and unique music. JC
  7. A definite classic. I was just thinking about this album a day or two back, and how huge it was when it was released. It was playing at every party and bar and gathering you could imagine.
  8. This was recommended to me by a friend. Will have to check it out. Thanks for the reminder.
  9. Wonderful system with some outstanding choices in equipment and all else. Listening must be superb! JC
  10. I honestly did not realize that MP3 even existed as a format that was used anymore. You would have though, like a number of deadly plagues in the past, that it had been eradicated!
  11. Molly Tuttle is a wonderful guitarist and talent!
  12. I personally think most any Knopfler album deserves a couple of mentions here, anyway!, Not to mention you have always exhibited remarkable taste in music and this is just another example. And yes, his music absolutely needs a bit of time to sink in over repeated listening to be fully appreciated. I've had this in heavy rotation since it appeared. JC
  13. Nikhil, my friend, scroll back a little it, to page 1075 of this discussion, for my post on April 13th and you will see what I think of this pick by you! :) JC
