File conversion software on Windows platform.

It’s not that I have a problem with dbPoweramp so much as I’m soliciting to all of this community what others have found after trying other software like Jriver etc…. -

I’ve been using dbPoweramp to convert 1 bit to AIFF. It’s here that I’m concerned that dbPoweramp software may be somehow not converting as pure (correct algorithm?) as othe Software. It appears the software from Weiss is the best, but cost $1,000 ! -

One of the biggest reasons I don’t use wav is the meta data structure that was designed into it. It has a much smaller and less diverse structure. For example, album art work capacity is so small that it can’t be held within the designed limit. So what happens is this data (album art file) gets sent to a folder in iTunes to be used whenever that music is opened. The problem is that artwork won’t follow the music file when it gets copied, because it’s not actually in the way file. It gets left behind in iTunes album art folder. The AIF file can hold it in metadata up to approximately 180kb. -

Thanks for all the great and super knowledgeable input! I know some are wondering why I’m converting my 1 bit files to PCM, and actually AIF/AIFF specifically. It’s for my music collection that I’ve put into iTunes. That software only intakes AIF/AIFF. It does also intake up to 24/192 files! From this converted data base, I can use it in most current server platforms. iTunes uses the common meta-data embedded in albums/songs the same as other software platforms. I realize at some point iTunes will shutdown their library options that I use. So, that being said, I’m trying to figure out the best way to convert my DSD music into PCM (wav/flac/aif etc….) and which software to do it. -

That depends on the DSD file. Correct ? -

Ok, so there are a few different issues with your response. First, your use of the English language results in a little confusion on your part. I’m assuming it’s not your first or primary language. The other is your assumption I’m not aware of the 6db drop on DSD files. I have a preamp that allows me to exactly increase the level. The last issue that is what I understand is the only relevant thing that may influence the sound I’m hearing after conversion, is the source file itself. That is a very difficult thing to verify the exact source of the DSD file in comparison to the PCM file I’m comparing it to. But here’s the issue. There is such a large degradation when I use dbPoweramp to convert. It can’t all be due to the source DSD file being from a differently produced music file than the PCM. -

So in other words when I convert a DSD fill to a PCM (FLAC/WAV/AIF/AIFF) it doesn’t sound as good as the DSD. Now if I compare it to an already commercially produced Music file in FLAC of the same song, the commercially produced file sounds better than the one I created from the DSD file using dbPoweramp. -

Most folks won’t hear much or a difference in various software, but my playback stereo setup is ultra high resolution. I can hear a flea fart! -
I'm an experienced 2 channel Audiophile. I'm just now starting to dive into the music server as a source. I have a huge collection of CDs (#7,000) that I have loaded into iTunes. I want to also convert my purchased DSS 1 bit music into either FLAC or AIFF so I can use it also in iTunes. I've found only one software program that can convert DSS > AIFF. That is DB PowerAmp. Ive noticed that it is loosing quality during the conversion. Is there a more robust accurate software out there?
