iFi's Pro iDSD (official) - NEW Firmware - MQA and more.
Pocobear replied to AMR/iFi audio's topic in General Forum
After several days of burn-in my iDSD Pro sounded so much better, so I routed the Ultra back into the circuit, based on your experience, and it did make a nice difference in SQ. My iMac is used only for music, Roon Server, so my cpu usage is very low, 3-8% all the time, so I probably had less problems than you to start with, with you using it for a work and music. I think with the Pro doing all the upsampling, it doesn't use much CPU time at all now, that's got to be a good thing! Good luck -

The SoTM doesn't help with the Pro at all, IMS, I tried it and decided to keep it simple. It helps with my Holo Spring Green Lv 3 as it's not galvanically isolated like the Pro. -

I have the same setup, iMac > audioquest Diamond > IDSD Pro, and the bass got better, tighter, less boomy, with it straight into the iMac. Yes the galvanic isolation is really good on the iDSD Pro. -

I have iMac > Roon > HQP > iDSD Pro. If I upsample PCM to 256 in HQP with the Pro set to1024, I get 256 on the Pro. If I upsample to only 354/384 or lower I get 1024 on the Pro. It appears like DSD is passed straight through to the output, without further upsampling. I really like . PCM to 512/1024. I also tried running the Oppo 205 via coax to the Pro, WOW, CD's never sounded that good before. Does break-in show any improvement over time, I got mine yesterday, so only one day burn in so far? -
I can play 256 just fine on my iMAC and MacMini w/o any special drivers, 512 no, 256 yes. DOP yes, no Native.

I second that, El Capitan is far better on my system than any of the newer Mac OSs.

Charente, Thx for the reply. I had uninstalled all A+ apps(again x4), so I tried again, by installing 3.1.1, And now it works! So I downloaded and installed 3.1.2 over 3.1.1 and it still works. Aw, the power of the internet, I ask about the problem, and it fixes itself, wish all problems could be fixed that easy. First time it's run correctly in over a week. 3.0.7 worked great.

I have a problem with 3,1,*. It will play one song only and halts, to stop you have to hit he STOP button before you can do anything else. This happens with direct attach, USB, and via ethernet. A+ 3.0.7, works fine.

Thanks Musicophile

A link to the new 3.1 thread would be nice. Also, how do you completely uninstall A+?

Alex email today. UpTone Audio LLC via yahoo.com 3:41 AM (9 hours ago) to pocomo Dear valued UpTone Audio customer: You are among a large group of people who placed an order for an ISO REGEN or an ISO REGEN/UltraCap LPS-1 bundlebetween June 27th and July 12. At the time of your order our web site--and the order acknowledgement e-mail you received--promised shipment by July 26th. It is with tremendous regret that I must now report there will be a 28-day delay in shipping our special products to you. A mistake was made in ordering of the ultra-low-phase-noise Crystek CCHD-575 oscillator clocks that are a key component in the performance of the ISO REGEN. A version with the wrong frequency was installed (our USB3.1 hub chip will not function with it), and while replacement will not take long, the frequency we use is a non-stocked, custom part--with a long lead-time. I would have informed everyone sooner, but it has taken a while to confirm the exact delivery schedule. We are now certain of circuit board delivery to us (August 17th). Adding time at our offices for flash/firmware programming, testing, assembly, and shipment preparations I feel confident in promising that all orders will be shipped not later than August 24th. You will receive a notice with tracking number on the day of shipment. My company prides itself on delivering orders on time, so I am deeply sorry for this significant delay. As always, your business, your enthusiasm, and your patience are all greatly appreciated. If any of you have questions, concerns, or a need to alter your order, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. Many thanks and very best regards, Alex Crespi

If 3.1 works like HQPlayer it doesn't bypass rendering. What would be the point if it did? The idea is to bypass the noisey USB port on the computer, and give you isolation from noise. Try it you will love it!

Keith, check out this site Alchemy Desktop. Try it out and see it you like their interface to HQP better, and let us know what you think. I run Mac's and would try it myself, but they haven't finished the Mac version yet. Cheers

SwissBear, Yes, that is a problem with Direct Mode + Integer Mode. Dirac 1.2 and probably older versions have this same problem with A+. However, Dirac 1.2 and JRiver MC 21 have no problems with rate switching. If I hit stop in A+, sometimes twice, between rate switching, all works fine till the next rate switch. I've always had problems with many versions of A+ and Direct Mode, and I usually use Dirac, but not always. With Dirac working fine with MC21, and failing with A+, I have no idea where the problem is.

Dirac Research - Digital Room Correction, Sound Optimization, Sound Filed Control is their site. It's not an a AU plugin. Data flow is from Player (Audirvana Plus) output to Dirac, Dirac output to DAC, up to 192khz, no DSD. In my system, I think that PCM music corrected for room problems with Dirac sounds better than DSD without room corrections. And my room has a very good response to begin with. + or minus 3db from 26hz to about 15,500khz with a gentle slope to 20khz, with a big resonate spike @71hz which Dirac takes care of very nicely. Need a bass trap for sure. One of these days.

MemoryPlayer, when I click on your link, it just goes to the home page and ver. 2.5.2 the regular release, not the beta release. Strange? Thanks anyway.

iFi iUSB 3.0 usb regenerator (with xxx pictures)
Pocobear replied to Elberoth's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Here's my setup, Mac Mini via iFi usb 3 cable to iFi USB3, via , [h=2]iFi Gemini Dual-Headed USB Cable,[/h] to iPurifier (not 2 model), to Regen to DAC. I found that IMS that the Regen and the iPurifier compliment each other. As the iPurifier2 is similar to the iFi USB3 in function I would think maybe you wouldn't need the iFi USB3 unit. I used the iFi iPower 9v unit for the Regen and now I use the Tone Audio power supply for the Regen set at 7.5v and I can't tell the difference between them sound wise. The iPower unit is only $50 US, it's a no brainer. Hope this helps. -
In A+ "Preferences", "Audio System" tab, and be sure that "Native DSD CApability is set to DSD over PCM standard 1.0" or 1.1 . That was my problem, when I had that happen.

When the usage is high A+ is processing and filling the buffer, when the buffer is full the CPU usage is low because it's just reading the already processed data, which is very easy on the CPU. When the buffer is almost out of data, the cycle begins again.
-
It is DSD as my DAC, PS Audio Direct stream Jr.s display shows 128DSD 1Bit while playing 16/44.1khz Stereo. It's real, at least on a true DSD DAC. I don't think OSX requires ASIO for DSD, as I haven't installed an ASIO driver. However some DACs may require ASIO such as exaSound.
-
You have upset conventional wisdom to set buffers as big as possible, which DSD upsampling obviously doesn't like, or should I say that the CPU doesn't like. Pure genius! I can now use DSD upsampling without fear of destroying my CPU as the average temperature is much lower overall. The temperature cycles from about 50 degrees C to about 75 degrees C, with the average probably about 63 deg. C. Thanks
