The fact the same files play fine using 2x other methods suggest the file rips are likely ok. It is strange that DSD files purchased on-line play fine but your ripped versions don't. If you have not already done so, perhaps check if there's a firmware update for the Merlot or windows driver update. Hope this helps

If USB was not formatted correctly, surely the tray would not open? The only other things not mentioned here, or I've skimmed over are... 1) if @orionrumba copied the files into the root folder of the USB instead of into an autoscript folder which itself is in the root folder of the USB. 2) if @orionrumba is using the correct version of autoscript for this unit...should be https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/66ke9korkkwvkecf7qiuy/h?rlkey=bz0gsl2t10775605gou2iwjg7&e=2&st=45m2ozb8&dl=0

I upgraded FW on my CA751BD via internet. Ethernet is preferred. Is there a reason why you want to upgrade via USB?? If it it isn't working via internet, try submitting a ticket to Cambridge Audio...they may be able to send you a link to the firmware you can use on a USB. Hope this helps.

Oh happy days! I have a Cambridge Audio 751BD which I'm more than happy with as far as playback is concerned. It's in a rumpus room downstairs. Kids use the system to play games via their Playstation and I kick them out to listen to my music whenever I want. I originally borrowed a mate's 752BD and ripped what SACDs I had some 5 or 6 years ago. I also purchased a 2nd hand Pioneer BDP160 about 1.5 years ago and have it connected to the TV upstairs for my wife and also used it to rip every new SACD since. Except...it started to play up recently with the drawer not opening/closing unless you power on/off at the wall. I found a second hand Cambridge Audio 752BD cheap on Trademe (NZ version of eBay) and have put a bid on that. Intent is to replace the Pioneer. Now I find that Cambridge Audio 751BD is now compatible so I've had a go at ripping an SACD and it works! I have to replace the Pioneer anyway and having 2x autoscript compatible SACD units in the house is a plus. (future proof ++)
