JPLAY for iOS
Carlosoptico replied to The Computer Audiophile's topic in Networking, Networked Audio, and Streaming
Thanks John, I hope you will try the wired JPLAY app. I started building my server in 2019. Initially I had two M2 Intel 760p 1TB SSDs (OS and Library), JCAT Femto USB and NET cards and a LPS HDPLEX 200 + HDPLEX 400 HIFI DC-Converter ATX and the same Apacer RAM. Then I built my DC cables, with Neotech pure copper monofilament wire with GSS360 insulation (Nenon technique). Afterwards I changed the OS SSD, for an Apacer SATA SLC, JCAT Signature SATA cable. Here the SQ improved. Then I changed Windows 10 Pro for Windows Business 2019 LTSC. Again the SQ improved. Then I switched to LPS JCAT 3 OPTIMO DUO and PLIXIR BDC Elite. SQ was upgraded again. I bought the JCAT S ATX OPTIMO and sold the Femto cards. I bought the new JCAT XE cards and the M.2 NVME Femto SSD, but I put it on a PCIe adapter, because my motherboard did not support NVME and I disabled the SATA drivers in Bios. Yet another upgrade. I bought another NVME Femto SSD, for the library. I made new cables with Mundorf monofilament silver and gold alloy thread for the DC. Another new SQ upgrade. Many of these changes were made during the COVID pandemic, which kept my mind busy and not afraid or paranoid. Then came the upgrade to the JCAT external OXCO Master clock for the USB card and a new DC cable (Y Cable) for the Optimo DUO 3. The latest has been the purchase of STACK EQ AUVA footers, first for the server and then (having heard the results) for the rest of the equipment. And the change from WiFi to cable. Anyway, I have enjoyed the whole process, which has coincided with my voluntary pre-retirement. And I have lived each change of SQ clearly. Today I could say that the most important changes have been the STACK footers and the change from WiFi to cable. Carlos -

In my team's signature, I need to update the JCAT OXCO Master Clock, I have removed the WiFi Network, and all the DC cables are made with silver and gold wire from Mundorf and Mundorf Angelique with Quad-Star architecture, made by me. The router is now powered by the JCAT S ATX Optimo 12 volt auxiliary DC output with an Idovr voltage regulator and I no longer use DC from the 12 volt solar battery. Carlos -

music server with HDPLEX H5 Gen 2 chassis, Asus P10S WS motherboard, Intel Xeon E3 1235L V5 (25 W), 16 GB RAM Apacer ECC Temp. Ext., 2 SSD M.2 NVME Femto (OS and Library), JCAT USB XE and NET XE cards. These four elements are externally powered by LPS Plixir Elite BDC and JCAT Optimo 3 Duo. ATX 24 pin power supply and CPU with JCAT OPTIMO S ATX. USB cable Final Touch Audio Sinope 1 m. Dedicated network for audio with Ubiquiti Edgerouter X and H&P Aruba AP12 access point with 12 volt DC power from solar system battery with voltage regulator for ldovr DXP IA55 access point , 3 Supra ethernet 1 meter and 1 Final Touch Audio Metis ethernet 1 meter and 2 Jcat Net Isolator . 2 Devialet 200, configured as monos on Devialet 400 with SAM program 100% for Audio Physic Cardeas Plus. Wires 4 Music Osiris silver-gold alloy Devialet interconnection cable of 1 m. Kimber Kable Select 3033 Speaker Cable. Audio Physic Cardeas Plus Piano Black Speakers. 2 Audio Crafts furniture 4 and 5 shelves. Solar electrical installation 48 volts, 2500w in solar panels and Victron pure sine wave inverter (5000 Va ) Jplay , Fidelizer 8.11 Pro , Jcat IOS UPNP . I used Qobuz for a few months with good results. Tidal didn't work for me, it was at the beginning of the JPLAY IOS app. I have almost 15 TB in the Library with FLAC, WAC and DSF files. Currently I only play local files. There are several of us in the JPLAY forum, who are using the cable mode. There is more life and denser textures, more air and more realistic harmonics, greater bandwidth, greater depth and placement. In short, in my system, much more real. Changing a new DAC or cable is hardly noticeable compared to this mode. Try it, it's a fairly cheap upgrade, for the results. Carlos -

Using the JPLAY iOS app with WiFi is very convenient and allows you freedom of movement. But if you want a significant increase in SQ, using the app with a cable is the alternative, even if you have your local network and WiFi very optimized. All you need is a Lightning to RJ-45 adapter and an RJ-45 cable between your router or switch and the iPad or iPhone. You also have to disable WiFi on the iPad or iPhone and set the IP address to automatic in the ethernet section, on the control device you use. The sound quality improves from the first seconds and it is very easy to notice it. For me, there is no turning back and I will use the JPLAY app with a cable. I encourage others to try it. Carlos -

To use the JPLAY IOS application with cable, I have a one meter RJ-45 FTA Metis connected to a JCAT Net Isolator and the latter to a 3 meter Supra Ethernet cable, plus the Lightning adapter connected to the iPhone. I am clear, that the last cable that is connected to the PC Single, is the one that most influences the SQ. But now there are four possibilities with the cables joined by the JCAT NET ISOLATOR, according to their order and direction. As the cables are not burned yet, I wonder if anyone is clear about the order and direction, since to my ears, the first of the options (a priori, the one I thought least) is the one I like the most. I currently live in an isolated area of the urban center, where the companies that supply electricity do not reach, so I have a photovoltaic system. It is composed of solar panels with a power of 2750 watts, a Victron Bluesolar MPPT 150Volts/70 Amps solar charger, a Victron Múltiplus 48 volts/5000va/70 Amps charger/inverter (pure sine wave), a set of BYD Lithium batteries of 20 Kilowatts and a Honda EU 30 is gasoline generator, with electric start, for when many cloudy days come (rarely). The quality of the power supply is exceptional, noticeable in the stereo and also in the Panasonic 4K television, with a slight improvement at night, when the batteries are no longer charging (although this may be due to the stereo It has been on for more hours). I have electricity for the whole house with the same power, for a fifth of what the Stromtank battery conditioner costs and with a monthly cost of practically €0.

It's also one of my favorite albums. I have it in DSD 64. I have almost their entire discography. He is one of the few musicians who inspired Miles Davies. I would also try to listen to Digital Works and Live at the Olympia (June 27, 2012) -
NVMe SSD designed for audiophiles
Carlosoptico replied to darkforce's topic in Disk Storage / Music Library Storage
For me, listening to music recordings has more to do with recording a musical act (sometimes the musical act) than with electrical measurements of analog signals. What device measures the depth, width or altitude of the sound scene. Or its three-dimensionality and holographic quality. Or how to measure the correct location of the interpreters. Or the intelligibility of each of its melodies, even in a large orchestra. Phew! So many things, but above all, what device measures, what is felt by many people, who have experienced it, that it sounds like a real event! That has been my evolution since 2019, with building a music server. From music coming out of the speakers to attending a very rewarding sound experience. !!! That cannot be measured!!! Same Apacer ECC RAM, same motherboard, server grade and Intel Xeon CPU. Only the SSDs and cards and the DC and ATX power supplies were changed. With the same Devialet 400 amplifiers, Kimber Kable Select 3030 cables and Audio Physic Cardeas Plus speakers, purchased with a 60-70% discount in store and very little work. If it doesn't come from the source, not even God can improve it!! my friends say. All the updates contributed something important and the sum is an enviable result. Carlos -
NVMe SSD designed for audiophiles
Carlosoptico replied to darkforce's topic in Disk Storage / Music Library Storage
It's always the same . Throughout history there have always been ultra-conservative fanatics who refuse to know the truth of things, just because they say so, without having experienced it, out of egocentrism. The best example, Galileo. One can work in the computer sector, but if you have not experienced the impact that the different elements that compose it produce on the final sound, you are not an expert in sound with computers, even if you are an expert in computer science in general. On my server I have had Intel M.2 SSD disks (760), SATA Apacer SLC and the M.2 NVME femto, two units of each and the differences are very large, in addition to USB and NET femto cards first and XE later , Neotech copper DC cables and then Mundorf silver/gold. The Intel M.2 took its power from the motherboard, dirtier than the one that powered the SATA and M.2 NVME femto SSDs that took it from an LPS JCAT Optimo Duo. But also, the noise generated by the SATA connection makes the M.2 NVME through PCIe and directly to the CPU, have a better sound. That's my experience. Adding an external Jcat Master OXCO Clock to the Jcat USB XE card powered by an LPS Plixir Elite BDC has made the server sound much better than it did 4 years ago without all the new updates. That's experience!!! It is not talk, without an empirical basis. Carlos -
I read in a document from the DC. Choueiri, that XTC could be done by putting a wall between the two speakers, so that the sounds coming from both would not mix, from the back wall to the listening point and up to the ceiling. If the speakers were highly directive, the better. It said nothing about whether the wall should contain absorbent material. Unfortunately I don't have a space like that to test it. Carlos
-
I did that for the absorbers on the sides and roof, which are for direct reflections. Bass traps in the corners and horns alternated with absorbers and by ear I left the horns as they are and only left two absorbers behind the racks.
-
With the help of my daughter, who put a mirror on the walls and ceiling and moved until the speaker drives were reflected while I was sitting in the listening position. Carlos
