immersive Immersive Album Of The Evening
ted_b replied to The Computer Audiophile's topic in Music in General
Totally agree. I listen to this in Auro 3D and the spaciousness is amazing. -
Chris, I'm sorry. I couldn't help it. My bad. I've streamed this album (Shostakovich) for some time but completely forgot it has an uncompressed counterpart. Nice!

Just like Kristi Noem's dogs. :)

But I wanted to add: our multichannel tent was small and cozy; this immersive tent feels like it's ten times the size...but not yet sure all the participants are in it with both feet. I love that you're leading the way in helping us understand the new immersive world, and to find the good ones. :)

Us multichannel veterans welcome you with open object-based arms. :)

The 5.1 mix of this album has been talked about for years as a frenetic crazy mix. This Atmos mix is a new one, but just as crazy.

Article: The Best Version Of… Joe Jackson's Night And Day
ted_b replied to Josh Mound's topic in Article Comments
Just saw him here in Denver two weeks ago. First half of show is solo Joe at electric keyboard, doing his 80's and 90's great stuff. Then, after a break, he comes out as his vaudeville alter ego and, with a vaudeville band, plays vaudeville stuff. Not my tastes, but the first half was great. Josh, thanks so much for this. -
Steve Wilson mix, I think.

Chatted with Jonathan; they're working on a fix right now...a bungled region code thing. (Edit: fixed)

Love Spoon, and been listening to the streaming version for some time now; great that Jonathan and the IAA folks are bringing this out. Strangely it would not let me buy it, said not available in your country (USA). ? I'll ping Jonathan

I bet that Goldberg sounds great! Anything Stefan's IAN label seems to touch sounds very well done in both Atmos and Auro 3D. Support this label! 😁

https://music.apple.com/us/album/band-on-the-run/1443413822 For a slightly belated 50th anniversary we get Band On The Run in Dolby Atmos!! Blows away the quad DTS cd offerings from years ago, but it's not all good news. This mix was done by Giles Martin, and in Giles fashion it is somewhat inconsistent. His signature. Argh. Although I like the Atmos mix, I don't love it. Giles, once again, proves that he does not take an overall view of an album, but instead mixes each track quite differently in many cases...and this inconsistency drives me nuts! When listening to great Atmos mixers (SW, etc) you get a perspective that often does not change throughout the album...similar objects are placed in similar spots, and one gets the same musical vibe from each of the tracks, and can get immersed easier cuz there is consistency and logic, even in wildly creative mixes. Not with Giles' work. Each track has a different mixing style, it seems. That being said, he does some of his best work on tracks 4 and 5 (Mrs Vanderbilt, Let Me Roll It). The lead guitar on Let Me Roll It is so defined, so well placed, that we get to hear fret board fingering, etc. Pretty nice. This album is a major part of the soundtrack to my life, and thank goodness the Giles Martin team didn't f' it up...they just could have done so much better IMHO. I give the streaming version (let's hope for TrueHD someday) an 8.
