+1 Unfortunately, apparently quite a few other members also believe that they can clean all the rubbish up at a later stage.
-
I was actually trying to reply to both of you, and trying to point out that Vinyl rips won't prove too much due to technology improvements.
-
Actually, it can be due to both causes.😉 Let's not forget that Vinyl was already a pretty mature medium, often using vacuum tube electronics, even for cutting the vinyl, and not heaps of early type slew rate limited opamps.

To date, nobody has been able to find any differences in the actual Digital domain. It's a bit like the differences are quite small/subtle and perhaps falling between the cracks due to measurement resolution ?
-
John How did you find the 2 examples I posted ? I tried these on Headphone Reviewer Dale Thorn several years ago. Up till then he really hadn't noticed any differences Alex https://www.dropbox.com/s/z1c8tx8gf2khacq/Touch Yello - 04 - Bostich (Reflected) (Yello).mp3?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/f9idn860qudm4rq/Touch Yello - 04 - Bostich (Reflected) (Yello).wav?dl=0

A better way to do this, if you have a spare fuse of the same diameter is to drill out (or blow) the fuse wire at each end of the fuse and solder in a length of suitable tinned copper wire. Incidentally, if the fuse was in the DC area of a large PSU you may be able to bypass it with operated relay contacts, using a suitably voltage rated relatively small physical size relay connected across the PSU output. The relay must of course be a fast release type. The relay could have a series resistor that matched the "must operate" voltage requirements of the relay. You may also be able to do this with an A/C fuse if you know what you are doing.

Many years ago, an Installation staff member accidentally dropped a spanner across a Sydney Au. Telephone Exchange's -52V busbar and melted the spanner. The 2 x 24 cell parallel banks of 2V (nominal ) batteries were of 2.000AH capacity each . I understand that the staff member also suffered severe burns to his hands .

John As the OP you have the ability to request OP privileges and remove all of this this personality clash stuff between a purely Measurements based member and myself who believes that pertinent measurements are indeed valuable, but NOT the be all, end all. As you appear to have rethought your original post, perhaps this thread should be permitted to wind down out in the absence of further new input from you ? Alex

Even Archimago has acknowledged that people with severe hearing damage are often able to hear things that others are unable to hear. In my case, in addition to me now being 82, I have a 21mm diameter Acoustic Neuroma pressing directly on my right ear canal, yet I prefer well recorded High Res material over the same on RBCD.
-
If this was true , there would be absolutely no point in anything with higher frequency content than 21kHZ such as Professional reel to reel tape, Vinyl, (which these days can readily exceed >30kHZ,) SACD , 48kHz of Music Videos, 24/96 and 24/192 and DSD. I prefer the sound of 24/48 on Music Video for example over 16/44.1 of the same recording . e.g. The often discussed Olivia Newton John recordings in John's PM group sound better to me than the same on CD, which is why I have linked to them several times previously. It is insulting to the vast majority to members to suggest that their preference for High Res material is imaginary simply because they are no longer directly able to hear a pure sine wave of >15kHz due to their age demographic. Perhaps I must be really stupid to believe that my collection of 6 high res albums ( in 24/192) from SoundKeeper Records sound markedly better than the same recording professionally downsampled to 16/44.1 ? 😜 P.S. I assisted Barry with the selection of the best sounding out of 4 versions of .aiff to .wav converters for his most recent 24/192 album Kay Sa. I have since heard the previous 5 albums reconverted using this S/W and they all sound clearly better under non sighted conditions.

SUICIDE PREVENTION Hell’s angel bikers were riding South on the M1 when they saw a girl about to jump off the Harbour Bridge. So they stopped. George, their leader, a big burly man of 53, gets off his Harley, walks through a group of gawkers, past the Police Sergeant who was trying to talk her down off the railing, and says, "Hey Baby.....whatcha doin' up there on that railin'?" She says tearfully, "I'm going to commit suicide!!" While he didn't want to appear "insensitive," George also didn't want to miss this "be-a-legend" opportunity either so he asked ..."Well, before you jump, Honey-Babe...why don't you give ole George here your best last kiss?" So, with no hesitation at all, she leaned back over the railing and did just that ... and it was a long, deep, lingering kiss followed immediately by another even better one. After they breathlessly finished, George gets a big thumbs-up approval from his biker-buddies, the onlookers, and even the Police Sergeant and then says, "Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had, Honey! That's a real talent you're wasting, Sugar Shorts. You could be famous if you rode with me. Why are you committing suicide?" "My parents don't like me dressing like a girl." It's still unclear whether she jumped or was pushed !!!

Further to what Chris has suggested. If you find this helps, check out https://uptoneaudio.com/products/uspcb-a-b-adapter -
Is this as you originally found in the tests with Mansr after the aborted start ? IOW, a little cleaner sounding overall .
-
Mani I am more here about Dotting the " i " and Crossing the "t" for the sceptics such as Mansr etc. who will always find some excuse to refuse to accept the results of anything their grasp of Theory does not agree with. G'night Alex

Come on Peter, you well know the attitude of a few no longer here Objective members especially. 😜 I feel sure that a few would also have liked the opportunity to listen to the original bit perfect versions now that the microphone captures are making them obvious to some of us at least Perhaps Frank included, who is no longer new to actually hearing these supposedly impossible happenings for himself ?
-
By that, I mean that because the captured microphone recordings are not bit perfect, this means that you should also also include the original captured identical .wav files for transparency.
-
That was always going to be quite likely, but still funny. Tripping up the stairs of the aircracft was more concerning. though😉 Has there been anything to replace the Alec Baldwin type stuff on the Late Shows yet ?

Yes, the differences are quite obvious, especially in the area of ingrained noise, however the conversions are no longer Bit Perfect. P.S. In this thread, Digital Signal Transmission - Page 9 - Objective-Fi - Audiophile Style the OP (TomJ) quietly disappeared into the void after a PM reply, but with without further posting, after he heard differences between Bit Perfect .wav files for himself, just as another Objective poster did after hearing the same differences as Frank reported with the same files.

Putting aside the anomalies for a moment, caused by the obscure setting SFS in XXHE, did anybody note this reply from Chris as quoted by JRiver ? These S/W player differences are far from unique to XXHE, with players such as JRiver sounding way better to many members than for example Foobar 2000, and even more so when played from System Memory.
