  1. If anyone finds my language or unintentionally rude sounding snarkiness not to their liking, please, set my user name to ignore. Go to account and Ignored Users and add me. No hard feelings. This is what I wanted to do for one reply that I found personally insulting to me. But I could not find this option. Now I see it is in the past tense Ignored Users menu. This is my usual solution when I am insulted by careless words to an innocent technical struggle. The bully becomes persona non grata. If you feel I am the perp, ignore me! Again, no hard feelings. But ultimately, all of this minutia of language while texting brouhaha aside, I was just looking for an easier way to convert some SACDs on my Oppo 103 with at least instructions a 9 year old Mac Sequoia user can understand. That was all. 😵‍💫 I appreciate the effort, but I was hoping for a different outcome than being accused of being too negative (from frustration was the implication, I guess?), not providing enough details, or called a jerk. Peace. ☮️
  2. I appreciate your effort, but I was hoping for a different outcome.
  3. OK "I appreciate your effort, but I was hoping for a different outcome" is softer and I will use that but, communication is a two way street, the reader and listener also need to consider context and, well, maybe he had a bad day? Sometimes, brains will do things that seem OK in text but that others need to also interpret in context and not accuse people, as one did here, of me being negative or making to big a deal out of it. Well, for me it was a problem. Not something to make fun of me about. But so far, I am being cast as the evil doer when all I was asking was for some advice on simplifying, if not the sequence, at least the instructions on the process for macOS. However, I am sure if I said “I appreciate your effort, but I was hoping for a different outcome”, while it would land softer, it did not emote my feeling about how I was being treated by the person. Disrespectfully.
  4. I pulled this from the same page: “Understanding the context in which this idiom is used is important because it helps us recognize when others are feeling disappointed or frustrated with us. By acknowledging their feelings and taking steps to make things right, we can avoid being on the receiving end of a “thanks for nothing” comment ourselves.”
  5. I made it clear in my original question what I needed help with: Is it any simpler to do this with a mac now? But instead, when I struggled with what I had already attempted, I was accused of making it harder than it is and being negative. In the USA, the expression “Thanks for nothing.” is more about quickly noting that, what was suggested, was known. So, thanks for nothing is akin to You betcha or in the South Aren't you special or simply Okay… But I am sure others will interpret it differently. IMO, I am the victim of a know-it-all approach to answering a question that blames the person asking. How does that make me the jerk? I use a mac. If a participant does not know macs, skip it. Otherwise, it would be cool if anyone with a mac did this and might know if there is an easier way to do it. That is all I am asking. Not to be personally impugned simply for seeking simplicity.
  6. Actually, now that I am attempting it, it is VERY complicated now. Do I download one of these files or both? Do these go on the USB or the Mac? What do I format the USB in? What do I put on the USB? Once things are gotten and in the right place, it seems pretty simple but it is the getting there I find impossibly confusing. https://www.sonore.us/iso2dsd.html
  7. Thanks. If only I could get that document to download! Dropbox is awful. I remember know why I left it years ago.
  8. I have an Oppo 103 and am getting into SACDs. I don't want to have to read all 232 pages here. Is it any simpler to do this with a mac now? in Fall 2024? If so, please LMK and steps. Thanks. or if not, which steps do I follow on the 232 pages here. Sorry, 233 and counting here. LOL Thanks!
  9. Well, this is what I thought! Thanks for checking. I think Apple will not fix this and, if they do, it will be Airport 3.
  10. Well, Rob_F1 ran a test in December and, it indicates, Apple has fixed the AAC 256 Airplay 2 issue. He posts it here on the Apple Forum: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254803259?answerId=259971881022&sortBy=best#259971881022
  11. Did Apple just remove the ability to downgrade Airport Express v2 firmware from macOS on Airport Utility? I went to show someone how to downgrade to Airplay 1 and, it was missing this option. It just updated it to latest. When you click on Version number, no menu to downgrade to older version appears. Just more current version digits. So I went to iOS and it still had that option (a menu of all the previous firmwares) and I downgraded to 7.6.9 for Airplay 1. It was weird. Well, whatever you do, don't assume clicking on update firmware option on the Mac version will give you options. It won't. Stick with iOS Airport Utility for now.
  12. I'm still messing around with my 2022 Apple TV 4K with maximizing audio out of it (other than Atmos). I think Apple might have made Apple TVs a bit smarter with audio. Maybe in a recent update? It has been gospel that ATVs set all audio up or down to 48 kHz. As Mr. D said. But (and maybe this was always the case or with an update) if I play Apple Music ATV app on my ATV 4K, it seems to send the PCM as it is. So if it is 16/44, that is what you get. If it is 24/48, you get that. As long as it is strait HDMI to an AVR which in turn plays it out. I bet if it detects a TV, it does a resample to match TV land. Of course, if it is a 24/96, then it will play as a 24/48. Since most Apple songs are 16/44 or 24/48, this kind of makes sense and was easy enough for the Apple Music on ATV OS developer to implement. I also recently played a rare AAC version of an album on ATV Apple Music too. I guess they never got a lossless version… But I do not have the right equipment to unequivocally confirm this. I am going by what my various systems are saying and what Apple Music is reporting via Control Other Speaker option on iOS and via Apple Music on ATV OS.
  13. Interesting article from Darko that relates. “We should remain cognizant that the Apple TV resamples all audio to 48kHz before it exits the HDMI port on the back. And if it didn’t, most TV operating systems would. That strikes hi-res streams from the menu. However, we should not let bit-perfect idealism cloud our judgement: any hit to sound quality wrought by the resampling of 44.1kHz CD-quality audio to 48kHz will be dwarfed by changes to room acoustics, loudspeakers, loudspeaker position and amplifier.” I agree. https://darko.audio/2023/12/why-bother-with-apple-music-when-we-have-tidal-qobuz/
  14. As usual, forums mess up intended textual communication. Was not directed at you. Just a general PMA comment. I got you are not a PMA… BTW: Where is a good chart or source for seeing how up or down sampling impacts audio for troglodytes? I may have transposed them. But my understanding is that (PMA trigger warning!), it really does not matter for non PMAs, especially in the case of the Apple audio chip set that handles it. Superbly, apparently.
