My newly built PC was also making strange noises. After disabling CPU C-States in BIOS it was quiet... I'm not saying this is your case, but if you don't have it already, it's worth a try.

I recommend you instead:

Yes. Regarding the mentioned disk relocation: your CPU only has 16 direct lines and they are all connected to the "silver" PCIex16 slot. Both M2A and M2M slots are connected via PCH The change proposed by me would therefore not bring anything.
-
If the M.2 slot closer to the CPU is unoccupied, move the disk there for the same reason as the card. But check the motherboard manual if I'm not mistaken...
-
What could be done right now, move the card to an adjacent PCIe slot. It doesn't matter that it is "bigger". But it goes directly to the CPU
-
Unfortunately, the license policy of some software providers is against frequent hardware changes... Actually, I'm still not completely clear about one thing: is it still worth sticking with the recommended DDR4 Apacer (D31.23245S.001) against "some" DDR5? I already have an Apacer, but if it should be limiting...
-
Exactly. I didn't mention it directly, but I mainly watch these variables: - disk connection method - RAM - mainboard power phases - CPU generation I know the direction, but I have no idea about the size of the change (for example if the SQ increment of a better motherboard doesn't degrade the non-optimal disk connection, etc) Unfortunately I don't have the funds to compare these options.

Yes, I was mainly concerned with the data disk, so actually quite good news. Configuration will be: OS - direct M.2 (optane) USB card - direct PCIe and data disk options: - direct M.2 with z590 board + DDR4 Apacer (which I already own) + i9-11900KF - direct PCIe (with adapter) with z690/z790 board + DDR5 + i7-13700KF - PCH lines M.2 on motherboard z690 + DDR4 Apacer + i7-13700KF If more efficient processors are worth the compromises in the form of the disk connection method and the need for new memory. Your opinions or experience are really welcome.

Do you think, given the above, it is better to connect MVMe via a PCIe adapter to the direct CPU links, or to the M.2 port on the motherboard, but via the PCH lines? That is, if the adapter will reduce (if at all) the differences between direct and indirect PCIe lines. And are these choices more critical for a system or data (music) drive? (I'm asking because of choosing a new motherboard. My current board doesn't support MVMe, so I can't try it ...and there are never enough direct lines). Thx

CPU vs PCH PCIe lines for SSD
novaca replied to novaca's topic in Disk Storage / Music Library Storage
I know that throughput is not the problem, but from the posts on this forum it is often stated that it depends on the latency, which is greater when connected via PCH. For example, plugging a USB board into a direct slot has, according to these opinions, a positive sound benefit. So my question was whether this would also be the case with a disc with a music library. I need to plug in one USB card and three NVMe drives (system drive and two music library drives). Which directly on the CPU, no board for 12th gen that I've seen allows (only Z590 for 11th gen, if I don't count x299 etc.). If it didn't matter, the selection would be wider... -
Has anyone tried to compare the real effect of location the music library on SSD connected to: - M.2 on board, processor lines - PCIe to M.2, processor lines - M.2 on board, chipset lines I'm struggling with the choice of motherboard - there are never enough direct lines and the bifurcation options are mostly limited. Do you think it is more important for a system disk than a data disk?
-
@jacky5555 did you solve it somehow or is it not a problem after all? Unfortunately, most Asus Z590s have this layout... Thanks

Would this power supply be usable (and a better choice than others) also for other than Taiko DC-ATX? (yes, for example HDPLEX 800W) If so, should v2 or v3 be considered?

HQPlayer's Network Audio Adapter

It was probably caused by the VPN client... -
Thanks everyone, I already have an idea of what to expect.
