  1. I've got my UGREEN DXP6800Pro packed with 6 x 18TB EXOS drives and running UnRAID. So far so good. I even whipped up a little icon to represent the UGREEN DXP6800Pro in UnRAID (you can see it in the dashboard shot above), in case anyone is following me on this adventure. (It's a modification of UGREEN's NASync favicon, expanded to have 6 bays and added LEDs etc.) I'm leaving the UGREEN stock OS NVMe "unassigned" so I can switch back to it later, should the need arise. That will mean abandoning all of my data, of course, so it won't be undertaken lightly (or without a full backup beforehand). Overall, it's been a pretty pain-free experience. A bit of a learning curve, but the best thing about a very mature, very beloved system like UnRAID is tons of forums, articles, videos, and other helps exist for solving just about any problem you might run into. (By the way, UnRAID is having a $20 license sale during August, which is well-timed as I'm currently on their 30-day free trial license and need to activate it by the end of August...).
  2. Hey, everyone, if you missed out on the Martin Mug chokes (or just want more for another project), I’ve been exchanging emails with him… Please go visit the topic here and do the needful. We need a few more people to make a new batch economically feasible:
  3. Ok, I heard back from Martin! He said: “[I need to order 40kg of flat wire ( minimum) from my supplier], so making 2 new chokes with about 2,2 kg copper each is economically a bad idea if there is left 35kg. ”At the moment only 2 other people are interested… 6 chokes total, which is still [too few] to buy new copper wire.” So, it seems we need 6 more people (9 total, or 18 chokes) to make ordering 1 spool of 40kg worthwhile (18kg * 2.2 = 39.6kg). If you missed out on these last time, now would be the best time to reach out to Martin and let him know ASAP! (And also please post here so we can all get a sense of how much interest there is in the next batch).
  4. Hey y'all! Apologies for the "thread necro" but I'm finally getting around to building my ULPS and I've heard these are "the ones." I'm wondering if anyone has a pair of these sitting around on the shelf looking for a purpose in life and wants to pass them along to another DIYer for a consideration... or (failing that), if it's still possible to get Martin to make these? (Yes, I've already emailed Martin. I haven't heard back, but it's only been about 24 hours -- I figure I'd best exhaust my options here before engaging his services, should such be available).
  5. Perchance, @genvirt, if you want to build V2 instead of V3, here's the schematic for that:
  6. If you missed @AngeloVRA's Group Buy for his amazing, beautiful two-box DIY Server + ULPS Chassis design, I've decided, regrettably, to relinquish my slot. 😔 After much contemplation, I realized that I want a chassis that supports full-height PCI expansion cards, not just low-profile ones. (The resulting box would be much larger and more expensive and is out of scope for this current build run). If you wanted in on AngeloVRA's low-profile Server Chass + ULPS set but missed your shot, please message me directly. (I've only got one pair to sell, though, so first-come, first-served...) Angelo and @Exocer will vouch that I already paid them in full at that both chassis are being milled as we speak. All that remains is for the buyer to reimburse me via PayPal F&F and then to pay the Shipping charges to Angelo and/or Exocer (as the boxes are still at the CNC shop).
  7. You can go here and just scroll a lot instead: UGREEN NAS | NASync Series Mostly it's about hardware value for money for those who want to bring their own OS to the table (since UGREEN's isn't mature yet).
  8. My only real complaint with the DIY Extreme / Sage C621-based system is likely a software or network issue. When I use Roon to discover music or just listen casually, Roon likes to lose its mind periodically. Music will continue to play unabated, but my control app will often pause and say "Waiting for Roon Core..." The only thing I can think that might cause this is: a) My Wi-Fi (which my phone uses to connect to the server) is spotty right in my listening chair. Some days it's 150-300Mbps, other days it's more like 10Mbps. (My server is hard-wired with Gigabit ethernet so that is not the problem). b) Roon has endemic responsiveness issues. c) The heavy-handed Process Lasso (PL) profile I set up to try and force Roon (and its services) + any other music software (HQPlayer, etc.) over to one Xeon Silver processor while quarantining Windows' services and other OS tasks to the other one might be interfering with Roon's own view of the world. The way I have mine set up is probably far from ideal, but if I'm not the only one experiencing this... maybe the PL profile isn't the problem? There's no promise that an even faster processor / bus / memory configuration would fare better if (a) or (b) are the problem. Regardless, I'm all ears for a better way to tune (c). Admittedly, I haven't scrubbed the forums for a better scheme in many moons. Perhaps someone posted a guide...
  9. I just saw this thread, but I backed UGREEN's foray into the NAS space (it just funded today). UGREEN NASync Series: Your Private Cloud Storage Solution. by UGREEN — Kickstarter Their own NAS software stack is early days, but the hardware seems very solid according to the bulk of early reviews. On the backer Facebook group, UGREEN committed to allowing people to install competing NAS software (despite initial reports that they had intentions to block that ability on a UEFI / BIOS level), though they made the usual caveats about not being supported and warranty coverage would be indeterminate should users opt to use different software. Even so, impressive value for money on the hardware at the Kickstarter price.
  10. This cable brought the "wow" when run between a Mutec clock and my DAC. Huge step up in performance over simpler cables. You can find price, terms, and my seller Feedback on my USAM listing: Shunyata Sigma v2 Digital Clock 50 Cable. 1.5m, 50Ohm. Like New For Sale - US Audio Mart
  11. I've been a fan and supporter of JRiver since June of 2013 when I first registered JRMC 19 after a brief chat with the CEO, Jim Hillegass via email. Swell guy. Given that Roon + Streaming Services is the very best way I have to browse and discover new music, but JRiver is (at present) the best (if not ONLY) way I have to sit on my couch with my iPhone or iPad and tell my DIY Extreme music server play ultra-high res music from my library (e.g., 32FS PCM or DSD1024 -- neither of which Roon will touch -- I find myself hoping in earnest that JRiver finds caretakers with that will embrace at least the possibility of integrating Qobuz, TIDAL, etc., as a way to help people discover new music. It's not as if JRiver doesn't have the plumbing on some level -- it already several internet radio channels, and its own Cloudplay service, just not subscription-based ones. Heck, I'm a software guy. I'd be willing to help as a hobbyist after-hours, but I don't have time to make it my day job right now.
  12. Price lowered to $4200.00. See USAM ad for more: https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650094151-mutec-ref10-se120-black/
  13. Thanks for leading the charge! I did some searching on the internet but haven't found anyone else reporting these discrepancies yet. I'm pretty sure we're not alone, though.
