While software/firmware upgrades will require "extensive human hours for development and testing", I believe that a longer life span of current products should see the cost of research and development for the next generation of products spread over a longer period of time, if that makes sense. 🙂

OTOH, programming development in software and/or firmware can lengthen the life span of components, reducing overall development cost of product lines over time.

Among other things, it may depend on whether existing technology can do the job, or development of new technology is required to achieve the intended goal.

I would think that all audio gear at this price point has a very "limited end-user market". 🙂

Hey, it's a legitimate question, IMO.

For quality components and speakers, I always keep the original packaging for best protection during shipping. Potential buyers on the used market generally want and/or expect such purchases to come with it. IMO, however, the same does not apply to cables where shipping in the original packaging offers little or no benefit and generally only adds to the cost.

The inclusion of MQA as a format would appear to conflict with the HD in HDtracks.
