What's the best digitizing phono preamp currently on the market?
BlueSkyy replied to BlueSkyy's topic in Analog Components
Nope it certainly doesn’t need to be a pre. An ADC would be fine. If the Nuwave dies I’ll go that way. I also use and love VinylStudio when A2D’ing vinyl. -
When someone says “thanks for nothing”, it’s usually not a genuine expression of gratitude. In fact, it’s quite the opposite – a sarcastic way of saying that they didn’t receive any help or benefit from someone who was expected to provide assistance. This idiom is often used in situations where someone has let us down or failed to meet our expectations. A quick internet search was unable to find anything positive about this idiom.

*wkliie, thank you for that. Unfortunately, at the present time there is not a Lumin in my system but have enjoyed the journey from A1 to S1 to X1 over the years. I'll be back, however, when your flagship X1 had been replaced. I promise! -

None that I can think of. -

I may have to start seriously consider a streaming service because "purchasing" music can become prohibitively expensive. And, not your point, but I think this is a very special album in terms of sonic quality and mood. -

I noted that at HDtracks, the entire album is available in 96/24 rather than a mix of sampling rates and bit depths. As to whether or not it will play gapless or not, I wouldn't know but maybe you could ask their customer support. Update: The offering on HDtracks is not recorded as gapless. There are no clicks or pops between tracks, however, but the songs do fade out to zero at the end of each tracks. -

The Ref10 and Ref10 SE120 appear to be top notch additions to any system. I use a Denafrips DDC and DAC both of which have high quality OCXOs and both units are using the same clock. The weak link in the chain is the HTPC and it’s USB but, hopefully, the downstream devices are taking care of business. I do have a GPS-based 10MHz clock signal in the house but am not sure how to integrate it into my audio system or if I even need to. -

Is the Ref 10 Nano a stratum 1 device or does that even matter as long as it’s stable? -

Sounds like you have an excellent system there Martin. But just to be sure, you can sense noise even if it is benign in nature? Power supply noise, correct? -

Both would work as long as the AOC was SFP and not SFP+ and the SFP modules connecting the fiber were SFP and not the + variety. Buy from Amazon and return if not to your liking. -

No worries, Piotr, and the enthusiasm is perfectly understandable. I wish I had the money to explore some of those very interesting upgrades. -

Those power cables that you mentioned appear to be filled with something akin to the black sand found on a beach on Maui Island, Hawaii. I once had a pair of name-brand speaker cables that were filled with sand apparently for the damping effect. The reason I know this is because when I went to re-terminate the cables myself, I dumped almost half the sand of one of the cables on the floor 😟 I tried to put as much of the spilled sand back in the cable as I could but the balance between the two main speakers never sounded the same after that. Have you tried any of those high dollar fuses in your JS-2? Personally, I've had limited luck with upgrading fuses but YMMV. -

Peter, correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the original intent of the SFP interface to allow the use of fiber rather than copper achieving galvanic isolation when connecting a Lumin to the network? The acronym DAC stands for "Direct Attach Cable (Copper)" and there is a "twinax" copper cable connecting the two SFP compatible connectors together rather than plastic or glass fiber thus nullifying one of the design goals of galvanic isolation. AOC, or active optical cable, interconnects on the other hand, do use fiber but I am not sure I've seen AOC in anything other than SFP+ which would not work with Lumin. -

For fear of hijacking this thread, do you feel there is something that could be done to an app, any app, to get around having to deal with the stale or invalid data being hung onto by smart switches and routers? As I said before, an app may fail to detect a device for whatever reason, but a manual ping to the original I.P. address finds the device without issue. -

Sounds like a total network reset was necessary but the question of "why" still remains. -

That is a great question. I know one of the apps on my iPhone that controls remote lamp socket switches goes nuts if I mess with the network. The devices remain connected with the original IP addresses and I can ping those addresses but the app goes nuts. I would expect the Lumin app to be more robust but maybe not. -

BlueSkyy replied to BlueSkyy's topic in Analog Components
I had mine repaired and the price and service were Stellar! At about the same time I also bought the Stellar phono amp as a gift to self. I use the NPC only for digitizing as I don't want to ever have to have it fixed again. -

If I could, I would run everything off batteries without having to use a UPS or any other conversion from DC to AC and back again but, then, I’ve heard horror stories about molecular and subatomic particle noise rearing its ugly head. -

The one continuous run would be the best. If you are comfortable with getting into walls, drywall work as necessary, those coiled steel snakes do work wonders. -

Replacing the short section inside the building is one thing, but what about the miles and miles of coax leading into your junction box? -

LOL. From his question, I wasn't able to glean that he was on coax only that he was curious. But, sadly, I am linked by coax to the outside world at the present time (XFINITY) and only get a download rate of about 800Mbps. -

Agreed. A dram of 30 year old Macallan Sherry Oak improves everything immensely.
